To go to a&e - blood keeps leaking from eye socket.

When I say pouring, I’ll suddenly get a gush from my left eye socket, then it stops. It’s happened three times now. Have no idea what to do. It’s not painful particularly - feels like I’ve scratched the eye or irritated it a bit. But - each time it looks pretty gruesome. Any thoughts? Would a&e be unreasonable?

If you are wasting A and E time they will let you know and you can leave. Personally I would not risk staying at home with eyesight, but I do know people who have had eye difficulties and have become legally blind. It looks like you aren't able to sleep (understandably) so why would you wait til the morning? Everywhere will be busier then and you will wait even longer to be seen.

Houndsahollering · 22/04/2025 05:10

Doctor but not an ophthalmologist- you’re near Moorfields so go there. Stop fannying around on the internet and get it looked at by someone who knows what they’re doing. It could be any number of things but sight is not something that any ED I’ve ever worked in would tell you you’re wasting their time with!

Lazlothevampire · 22/04/2025 05:20

You are lucky that you can get to Moorfields. You are literally bleeding from your eye, my god, I’d have been there already.

God I just don’t know what to do. Wait till morning or just run to Moorfields now. Hate wasting a&e time! It is a bit sore. But none of the emergencies listed above. Thing is blood coming out of eye socket looks gruesome so maybe I am overreacting!

If you are able go to the eye hospital A & E right now! No one will think you are wasting their time in these circumstances. Your eyesight might depend on early intervention. Just go!

bananaramaisdabomb · 22/04/2025 05:20

Go to any high street optician. I damaged my eye recently (gardening, got a bit of rubbish in my eye, it wouldn’t stop watering all day). We have a good eye hospital nearby, but the A&E times there are bonkers, so I thought I would just ask in the optician first, and go to hospital if they advised. They did a proper examination with all the machines and dye etc, found it was a corneal scratch, and prescribed the right eye drops. in and out in an hour.

I know @Mumtobabyhavoc it does sound weird and it’s really freaking me out! I’m in London - could pop to moorfields a&e

Get there now. It is open 24/7 and this is most definitely an emergency.

HelenWheels · 22/04/2025 05:48

i think you should go sooner rather than later, eyes should be taken seriously

Fraaances · 22/04/2025 06:01

Go! Don’t dick around with your eyesight!

JustMyView13 · 22/04/2025 06:02

if you haven’t already gone, go now before people wake up and start injuring themselves. I would go to A&E to rule out anything sinister.

Waterweight · 22/04/2025 06:02

Take a photo & head to the hospital

Zanatdy · 22/04/2025 06:04

I’d definitely make your way to Moorfields. Hope all is ok.

nightmarepickle2025 · 22/04/2025 06:15

Just go to Moorfields!!

DragonBalls · 22/04/2025 06:21

This must be the most ridiculous Should I Go To A&E post I have ever seen on here. Maybe it won’t be an emergency or serious. But you are bleeding from your eye FFS.

Even though there's still 2days 21hours remaining in the poll? Have you voted?

HazelBite · 22/04/2025 06:27

My son had a problem with his eyes, went to local A & E who referred him to Moorfields. I would go directly there if I were you.

TimeForATerf · 22/04/2025 06:36

Do you have an optician? Can you get an emergency appointment with them, my mum has had this, she has macular degeneration. The ophthalmologist checked her eyes and called the eye hospital and gave her a same day appointment so she didn’t have to sit and wait for hours in A&E.

mamakoukla · 22/04/2025 06:56

If it were me, I wouldn’t hesitate on this as it is a bit bizarre for a person (myself) with limited knowledge. Hope you’ve been seen and looked after

Go to the hospital immediately

CatsWhiskerz · 22/04/2025 07:18

I hope that because you've gone silent that you're now at moorfields , if not then just get in a cab and just go, it needs attention

I hope you're ok

TonerNeedsReplacing · 22/04/2025 07:21

I have a pretty high bar for taking myself to a&e (and so have only done so once - after a private consultant appointment insisted it was an emergency) but I would absolutely go for this.

If youre the right side of London - There is a walk in eye casualty at Prince Charles Eye Hospital in Windsor - They are very good!

VanillaVein · 22/04/2025 07:26

Go straight to hospital ffs. You could have a broken leg hanging off by a minute shred of a dead skin cell and you'd have fools on here "advising" you to just put an ice pack on it and go see your GP in 3 mths time if it's not better.

vickylou78 · 22/04/2025 07:28

Go to A&e

Iamnotalemming · 22/04/2025 07:41

If you've got the luxury of Moorfields nearby I would just go.

Gloriia · 22/04/2025 07:47

Usually on mn I always advocate 111 or gps for all the aches and pains that people think warrant A&E.

However, bleeding from an eye absolutely requires immediate attention so I do hope you've gone to A&E.
