To wonder who is buying chocolate cereal

Who om each is buying Lion bar and Oreo cereal? See also lucky charms, nesquick and coco pops
These aren't breakfast foods (or any sort of food). I literally cannot imagine anyone thinking it is a reasonable way of feeding children?

I agree with you that they are rubbish and shouldn't be given to kids.

LooserWooner77 · 21/04/2025 19:28

I do for DC with eating issues.

FleurDeFleur · 21/04/2025 19:29

You've got a lot of pork consumption going on there.

You're better than everyone else. 🏆

RockaLock · 21/04/2025 19:29

My DS2 was exclusively tube-fed until he was 2, and as a direct result of that finds eating very difficult, both taste and texture. Despite our best efforts over the years and multiple interventions including feeding clinics at GOSH, there are literally about 15 things that he will eat (he is now 16) and he eats barely enough to keep a 5yo alive.

So yeah, I buy him coco pops for breakfast because I just need him to eat a decent amount of food for breakfast. And multiple dietitians have agreed with me on that point.

So OP, you can fuck right off with your judgemental comments and just thank your lucky stars that you don’t have a child with a genetic condition so rare that most specialists we see on the NHS and privately (and there are a lot of them), although they have heard of it, have never had a patient with it before.

Heathens.

My DH likes a bit of crunchy but for pudding. Evening pudding, not breakfast pudding.

Ooh breakfast pudding… that’s a good idea. Might start that!

Kit Kat cereal is amazing without milk to snack on.

ChompinCrocodiles · 21/04/2025 19:29

They think smoked salmon, steak, strawberries, duck, melon etc are sll fantastic

Likewise. With all 3 dc. They also love cocopops and are delighted if we stop at a mcdonalds.

The two are not mutually exclusive and I'm sure plenty of poor little coco-pop eating kids also like fruit and meat 😂

Obviously my kids have a birthday cake?

Two are summer born so we tend to BBQ.

If they go to a soft play party then they might have beige buffet. As I say, I don't stop them but mine eat a brilliant range of foods. Honestly they aren't missing out as they think smoked salmon, steak, strawberries, duck, melon etc are sll fantastic.

We don't have good snd bad food, just food. However, 80,% of what they eat at home is whole food's.

That's a lot of words.

I'm better than you and just wanted to humblebrag that my children are easy and I can afford expensive food

Is fewer words. For next time

I absolutely do. It's easy. Throw a big pork in the slow cooker. Wedges, coleslaw, buns. Easy.

Hope the buns aren't ghastly white bread.

TeainanIV · 21/04/2025 19:30

I'm buying them for me! Coco Pops and Wheetos (with blue top milk, had to be whole!) were my go to pregnancy craving for both pregnancies! Even now, when I get late night munchies they're my go to snack 😋. We try and hide them from eldest DD, occasionally allow as a treat or when we're on holiday!

not doubting it's easy, doubting the number of average kids who'd even look at it (but then I probably only know OBESE repulsive little neglects)

This sounds great. I make a lot of banana muffins (also with chocolate chips and often with cocoa powder) but I've never thought of adding milled flaxseed. Sounds like an easy nutritional win! Thank you!

But unfortunately I still have to roll both my kids around, watching the rotten teeth fall out of their heads as I do, because of the 1-2 bowls of cereal they eat each week. So be warned. A batch of flaxseed muffins will not cure the Kellogg’s-induced obesity

I am a right judge pants when it comes to feeding kids.

I walked down the cereal aisle today and was aghast that such rubbish is being fed to kids. (Healthy adults I also judge a bit but if you have a normal bmi and an otherwise good diet then it's up to you.).

I just don't understand why you wouldn't want to give your kids a healthy diet, especially to start the day.

Ah, I'm a right judgy pants about people who go to supermarkets on a bank holiday, OP.

I don't understand why you wouldn't want to give capitalism a break, especially on Easter Monday.

Isn't it lovely that we all have someone to look down on? /s

Hoppinggreen · 21/04/2025 18:57

I used to love Coco pops and bought them until recently
They changed them though so I no longer do

Yes!! Dry, tasteless and a very strange flavour now!!

Sunshineandpool · 21/04/2025 19:30

Apart from weetabix, I don't think any cereals are really 'breakfast food' in that they are super sweet.

But yes, I always buy the multi pack of the mini boxes of cereal when we go camping.

NiceCuppaTeaaaaa · 21/04/2025 19:31

I buy chocolate cereal. It's a Friday morning treat here. Mainly for DC2. Same child is vegetarian and generally eats a wide range of veg-based dishes (homemade).

In my 80s childhood, we put sugar on top of cornflakes. Probably amounted to more sugar than a chocolate cereal.

After reading this thread, I now really fancy some crunchy nut cornflakes straight from the box.

Missey85 · 21/04/2025 19:31

It's all mine! I'd rather be happy than eat the healthy cardboard crap 😊 ❤️

EnhancedVampireEyeballs · 21/04/2025 19:32

Blueyseviltwin · 21/04/2025 19:11

Porridge and fruit? Scrambled eggs? Wholemeal toast and pure nut butters?

I've never once fed my kids a breakfast cereal. I understand now why childhood obesity is so rife.

My kids have the odd ice cream, chocolate etc. I'm not a fun sponge but I just can't get over serving that as a meal before expecting concentration at school for example.

As for cost of living, porridge is much cheaper.

Well I can't eat porridge, most fruits, wholemeal or wholegrain bread, or any nut butters. Not due to being fussy, due to medical reasons. If you are in fact a GP, I'm sure you can deduce why. And whilst I'm clearly in the minority, I'm just giving an example of why some people can't eat your suggested breakfasts, and go for an alternative. Perhaps you could consider that before rushing to judgement?

JandamiHash · 21/04/2025 19:32

Does anyone remember Start cereal? It was elite!

Golden Nuggets have gone downhill. They’re much smaller and sweeter and rather bland

GourmetLettuceMix · 21/04/2025 19:32

Is it just me or have they changed the Cocopops recipe? I haven't had them a while but we are on holiday so they're compulsory.

Dhxusksgxuks · 21/04/2025 19:32

I ate coco pops morning, noon and night for the entirety of my first trimester because they were all I could stomach through the morning sickness.

I wonder if I have any left, I could tan a bowl right now.

DonningMyHardHat · 21/04/2025 19:32

Might go out and buy some now, just to spite OP.

Crazyworldmum · 21/04/2025 19:32

Should I tell you my kids eat a Nutella sandwich most days before school ? 🤷🏻‍♀️ they are awful eating breakfast so anything they accept is a win or they go without food until lunch time

FleurDeFleur · 21/04/2025 19:33

Duck is very fatty, that with all the BBQs and pulled pork, venison and bolognese.
You need to introduce more vegetable based meals.

arcticpandas · 21/04/2025 19:20

Tbf also kings of eating regular healthy meals instead of non stop snacking so you got some things right:)

Hmm not necessarily, my French family’s idea of le snack is more chocolate, their diets are pretty shocking to be honest. But they are all painfully skinny so 🤷‍♀️
