To wonder who is buying chocolate cereal

Who om each is buying Lion bar and Oreo cereal? See also lucky charms, nesquick and coco pops
These aren't breakfast foods (or any sort of food). I literally cannot imagine anyone thinking it is a reasonable way of feeding children?

I live in France and nearly all the cereals are chocolate - even Weetabix have chocolate chips in them

Dawnb19 · 22/04/2025 20:06

Your coming across as very snobby. Just because someone doesn't give their kids suger does not make them a batter parent than someone that does. My mam always refused to buy chocolate cereal and other sweet stuff as well as crisps but we just bought it on the way to school. 🤷

Oh bore off.

Bloody love coco pops.

This.

Just had a bowl for my supper and zero shits given 🤣

berightorbehappy · 22/04/2025 20:10

Anyone seen the sugar and calorie content of some granola ! I have coco pops at home for kids at the weekend …they have survived !

HoraceCope · 22/04/2025 20:11

my dc were all slim and healthy, and still are in the 20s and 30s.
i am not, and i never ate cocoa pops! <<unfair>>

whatsausername · 22/04/2025 20:13

Gosh if you think that’s bad you’d be horrified at my 7 year old having Pop Tarts for breakfast before school haha! He also loves Oreo cereal.

these aren’t even treat breakfast in my house they are staples

TeflonMom · 22/04/2025 20:13

Fuck the sugar content the price of the things! I don’t buy them because I’d have to remortgage to afford them every week

No food is banned in our house. My kids often eat a yoghurt and spaghetti bolognese simultaneously. There is no food they don't eat. They eat spicy curries, veg, soups. Lentils, venison, salmon.

They love food. They have ice cream at the beach, we make crumbles in the winter but I see so many kids that are obese, constipated and fussy eaters (I'm a GP) that I don't understand not feeding them better.

I also think it's alarming in the UK that not eating coco pops and chicken nuggets and waffles is seen as fun police not a good parenting decision.

Well. As aGP, you will know that low fiber diets are necessary sometimes.

Although, our GP has been beyond shit apropos cancer.

So maybe not.

All that healthy eating and outdoor activity you enjoy?

Hasn't stimulated your empathy cells has it?

Maybe you need blood tests?

Although extrication of ice through a syringe might be tricky!

Obviously my kids have a birthday cake?

Two are summer born so we tend to BBQ.

If they go to a soft play party then they might have beige buffet. As I say, I don't stop them but mine eat a brilliant range of foods. Honestly they aren't missing out as they think smoked salmon, steak, strawberries, duck, melon etc are sll fantastic.

We don't have good snd bad food, just food. However, 80,% of what they eat at home is whole food's.

Exactly OP. No ‘good’ or ‘bad’ food. Therefore what is ‘bad’ about chocolate cereal when eaten occasionally as part of an overall healthy diet? Are you equally as shocked walking down the crisps, biscuits, chocolate and wine aisles in shops? Or do you think these are ok to be consumed occasionally as part of a balanced diet?

Doubt he would be full for very long though!

He might lose some weight and be able to breathe without wheezing though.

I remember going on a French exchange, at school and the family I was staying with gave me chocolate cereal for breakfast, with hot chocolate to drink, and brioche rolls with huge chunks of chocolate for my packed lunch. I thought it was the best thing ever!

BecauseThatsHowYouGetAnts · 22/04/2025 20:18

I have cereal daily, and when they are on offer I like to buy chocolate shreddies. They stay crunchy longer than other chocolate cereals.
My kids don't know these exist for them and only get porridge or weetabix!

mathanxiety · 22/04/2025 20:19

People who are not suffering from orthorexia are buying them, that's who.

mathanxiety · 22/04/2025 20:24

axolotlfloof · 22/04/2025 19:53

This thread is a hilarious middle class lecture.
Most kids will never eat duck, steak and smoked salmon.
I buy my (skinny, cycle 5 miles to school) kids chocolate cereal if they want it.
They eat a normal varied diet without smoked salmon or duck.

And don't forget the venison.

StarkleLittleTwink · 22/04/2025 20:25

There’s zero nutrition in that rubbish. An occasional treat yes, but all it does is increase the chance of diabetes. Those cereals (usually Kelloggs crap) should be banned. No wonder we have an obesity problem in the U.K.

Growlybear83 · 22/04/2025 20:28

I love coco pops! I had no idea that a lion bar cereal existed, but I’ll be adding it to my ocado list for this week.

Leela100 · 22/04/2025 20:30

People who are fun at parties I imagine 🙄

nomas · 22/04/2025 20:31

Just bought chocolate shreddies for me,

NameChangeAgainShhh · 22/04/2025 20:32

@Blueyseviltwin

I find your post really interesting - with regards to party food! We recently went to a party and my LO was served jam sandwiches, biscuits, crisps, sweets etc. My LO is only two. He was up in the night with belly ache from all the sugar. It got me thinking about British culture, me and my husband were talking about what party food would look like in other countries. It’s interesting you say about not having nuggets and waffles is seen as boring. How have we created this culture? My LO would have loved a curry or pasta at the party! He’s a brilliant eater because we’ve always offered a range of foods. Why are we giving toddlers sweets and juice? Your post did seem a bit judgemental to me at first but I agree wholeheartedly - why are we creating a nation of junk food eaters and normalising it? I can’t believe how much hate you’re getting for this post!

Yeah haha, I just bought some earlier today. That's what made me click on this post xD
Thanks though.

Has anyone tried chocolate weetabix ?
Really lovely with either hot or cold milk. Vanilla soya milk takes it to another taste level.
