To wonder who is buying chocolate cereal

Who om each is buying Lion bar and Oreo cereal? See also lucky charms, nesquick and coco pops
These aren't breakfast foods (or any sort of food). I literally cannot imagine anyone thinking it is a reasonable way of feeding children?

I have often given my GC chocolate rice, followed by two eggs and toast. They're both very active, slim, and burn through calories.

i thought of this post when they announced free breakfast clubs in primary schools this morning.
i wonder what cereal will be provided?

My GC tell me that they usually have Weetabix, or occasionally pancakes on special days. Breakfast club has normally started at 7.45 but the "free" places don't start until 8.30 so I'm guessing that there would only be time for a bowl of cereal.

#Wonders if OP's post is real or trying to wind us all up?

ICanFeelItComingInTheAirTonight · 22/04/2025 18:20

GPs and teachers bleating they aren't paid enough, but are feeding their kids steak, salmon and venison 🙄

Dogsbreath7 · 22/04/2025 18:25

Are these worse than chocolate croissants (or almond), pain au chocolat, bread with chocolate spread or hot chocolate?

Asking for a friend.

Nikki7506 · 22/04/2025 18:26

My 5 children eat coco pops, weetos and chocos.

We had sugar puffs and frosties when I was a kid........I dread to think what went into cereal 40 years ago 🤣🤣

Oh bore off.

Bloody love coco pops.

This!

ThanksForAllTheFish · 22/04/2025 18:28

Coco pops was my pregnancy craving. I couldn’t get enough of them. I’m also partial to a bowl of wheetos every so often.

I have never bought it or will never buy it for myself or children . Completely agree not a healthy breakfast or a healthy snack . Just UPF it’s rubbish.

Oh, eff orf! That wide-eyed judgyness, slyly shaming anyone who doesn’t see things the same way as you, is the least attractive quality in a person, @Blueyseviltwin. Stop being horrible.

Dunkers are cheese, what's wrong with them occasionally? If she's eating vegetables and fruit too there nothing wrong with them and you can get baby crisps which are basically baked corn!

You do know it’s the salt that’s the problem in Dairylea Dunkers, right? As in far too salty for a baby. Not the “cheese”. Aforementioned baby has most of her meals via pouches too, so not a great diet.

There was a very interesting article in The Guardian about melty baby snacks being terrible for development - they’re proving a problem for children as they’re not discovering texture. Everything just melts on the tongue. And yes I too fed these corn snacks to my kids when they were babies but I’d think twice now.

@maybein2022 I'm another one who has walked in your shoes - sending you all the strength to support your DD. Do you post on the young people with ED's thread - I used to be on those and it was such a helpful space with people who really get it.
@Musermum yay to recovery - mine is now 22 and thriving but 17 onwards were some dark times

MyKingdomForACat · 22/04/2025 18:36

Thank you. No I don’t actually, I didn’t even know those threads existed. Thank you for mentioning that and so glad your daughter is doing well now.

I bought Lucky Charms for my kids as a St Patrick's Day treat. They were THRILLED, both because of the sugar content and the pop culture of it. Definitely going to be an annual tradition now.

BouleBaker · 22/04/2025 18:38

They are known as holiday cereal in this house!

You know what I haven't had for donkeys years? Rusks. I'm not sure the dc would even recognise them.

Fuck me, I'm buying rusks tomorrow. This thread has inspired me 😍

Haha I love Farley’s rusks! Don’t care how old I am 😆

Harrysmummy246 · 22/04/2025 18:40

DH and DS in equal measure. But DS only tends to choose it at the weekend. School day seems to almost always want porridge

Sennelier1 · 22/04/2025 18:40

Healthwise they're not better ór worse than non-chocolate cereals, so yes, if I have to choose between my grandchildren not eating anything for breakfast ór eating a bowl of chocolaty? Guess what.

Oh, and this is someone whose family eats a wide range of mostly minimally processed whole foods. In case you thought I was just feeling attacked and butthurt@Blueyseviltwin. I just hope to god you’re not one of my GPs.

I really want to try pulled jackfruit. Is there a recipe and a brand of tinned jackfruit you'd recommend?

This is the recipe I use: https://tasty.co/recipe/vegan-pulled-pork-sandwiches

It is quite time consuming but the result is really delicious!

I use tinned jackfruit for mine - just whatever tins they have in the Asian supermarket near me (and also have now seen it in Sainsbury’s but haven’t tried it - expect all tins are broadly the same though!).

Vegan Pulled Pork Sandwiches Recipe by Tasty

These sandwiches are a great plant-based alternative to the classic pulled pork sandwich. The jackfruit is seasoned with spices and BBQ sauce, creating a tender and flavorful meat substitute that even the stanchest of meat eaters will love.

ZanyOP · 22/04/2025 18:41

Unfortunately chocolate hoops and jam on toast are a staple at my 5 year olds breakfast club. I agree we should all know better but especially a kids club.

silverstorm101 · 22/04/2025 18:44

Frankly it's none of your business what other people feed their kids.

But not all parents are in a position to give their child smashed avocado and hummus for breakfast 🙄

Some children don't get fed at all so if it's a choice between that and a chocolate cereal I know what I would pick!

Some children have additional needs or sensory issues, some families are just plain broke.

Stop being so bloody judgmental, being a parent is difficult enough as it is.

Newoxonbird · 22/04/2025 18:45

Oh blimey not every day but now and again for a treat surely !
It's not toxic waste.

Allseeingallknowing · 22/04/2025 18:48

On the news this evening they showed the new breakfast clubs start up, and several chocolate cereals were in evidence. A song as other types of food are eaten, fruit, eggs etc this shouldn’t be a problem.
