To wonder who is buying chocolate cereal

Who om each is buying Lion bar and Oreo cereal? See also lucky charms, nesquick and coco pops
These aren't breakfast foods (or any sort of food). I literally cannot imagine anyone thinking it is a reasonable way of feeding children?

I buy the M&S protein cereal for my son regularly... it's chocolate. So sue me!

ThisUsernameIsAvailabl · 22/04/2025 17:49

Currently my (slim healthy) 18 year old who is neck deep in A level revision eats mounds of Krave chocolate cereal. It’s a treat. It keeps him going. We all know it’s not a healthy choice OP. But sometimes it’s just the thing.

LaDamaDeElche · 22/04/2025 17:50

Weed smokers and students 😂 Seriously OP, a bowl of chocolate cereal in an otherwise healthy diet, never hurt anyone. I live in Spain and you would be shocked to know that many kids eat biscuits and chocolate milkshake for breakfast here. They eat an otherwise healthy diet and the Spanish have one of the longest life expectancies in the world.

Agree wholeheartedly with you. This is one area we need to be pearl clutchy. My niece feeds her 11 month old Dairylea Dunkers and crisps. Deaf ears there, good luck raising a healthy non fussy eater with that start in life. Those cereals are truly disgusting and you can bang on all day about eating them as a “delicious” pudding; they’re not aimed at adults, they’re full of shite and if you feed them to children you either can’t be bothered or need educating.

Dunkers are cheese, what's wrong with them occasionally? If she's eating vegetables and fruit too there nothing wrong with them and you can get baby crisps which are basically baked corn!

I buy coco pops and cookie clusters…from ASDA but not lion bar, snickers, Oreo etc… and hate lucky charms
with a passion, but there must be someone out there buying them.

each to their own eh?

GhostHunterPlay · 22/04/2025 17:53

I have 2 boxes of chocolate porridge!

mondaytosunday · 22/04/2025 17:54

Oh gosh! How utterly awful of us to not feed our children the finest of unfun Waitrose Weetabix served up with a side of contempt for us sugar-loaded, shit parents! What utter bastards we are! Won't someone think of the nose-dabbing parents, staring down their hawk-nosed beaks at us, glaring in anger as we reach for the fun cereal and ram it down our kids necks!

Oh gods! I'm afraid I will need to refer myself to Child Cereal Social Services. I will then feed myself a box of Waitrose most naughty rice crackers, and I will enjoy every dry morsal I torture my mouth with.

Goodbye cruel world! I have died a cocopop death, and my poor children are malnourished on all the other chocolate cereals they shall not be too far behind my sugary death!

Signed

La'F'ck'Off'Karen.

Well - this is Bluey's EVIL twin, what do you expect? Smile

BaileyHorse · 22/04/2025 17:57

Coco pops are god tier cereal

ColdWaterDipper · 22/04/2025 17:57

Me, for my children occasionally as a treat - birthdays, Christmas, Easter etc. why not? They are super fit and healthy, eat nutritious and varied diets, so I doubt a bit of chocolatey cereal is going to finish them off, and I bet they could run a 10k in half the time it would take the average mumsnetter!

HoraceCope · 22/04/2025 18:01

i thought of this post when they announced free breakfast clubs in primary schools this morning.
i wonder what cereal will be provided?

DefinitelyNotMaybe · 22/04/2025 18:06

M&S high protein chocolate crunch is bloody great (and vegan) 🎉

Obesity, diabetes and related issues are public health problems that affect everyone negatively. There should be stigma associated with starting a child's day by pumping them full of empty calories and sugar.

It's not that difficult to provide porridge and unsweetened yoghurt.

No it’s not, but when you have a kid that is fussy AND isn’t fussed about eating/feeling hungry, it’s hard enough to get them to eat even things they do like. Sugary, empty calories are better than no calories at all. I’ve learned that the hard way.

Musermum · 22/04/2025 18:07

Interestingly, the dietitian had Coco pops on my DD1 's meal plan when she was recovering from anorexia at home (FBT and outpatients). Good for something then!

PeachyPeachTrees · 22/04/2025 18:08

Frosties and crunchy nut cornflakes have more sugar. Why pick on the chocolate ones?

Quite. I hope your daughter is doing better now. Mine is in the throes and coco pops, when she is willing to eat them, feature in her diet.

Crudd99 · 22/04/2025 18:14
