To wonder who is buying chocolate cereal

Who om each is buying Lion bar and Oreo cereal? See also lucky charms, nesquick and coco pops
These aren't breakfast foods (or any sort of food). I literally cannot imagine anyone thinking it is a reasonable way of feeding children?

I wish my daughter ate avocado and berries every morning but unfortunately she has Arfid and Asd and I will give her what she will eat rather than she starve 🤷‍♀️

A lot of triggered very unhealthy people here

At least they're at home being triggered, rather than losing their shit at a supermarket aisle to the extent of starting yet another thread on the internet about the existence of Lucky Charms and Coco Pops.

Willing to bet that the Lucky Charms are bought by adults for adults in the majority of cases, though. They're not cheap, anymore than the gluten free granola we've just had as a topping for banana, apple, mandarin segments and a nice big blob of natural yoghurt and milled flaxseed is.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 21/04/2025 20:22

I was shocked to learn that most granola contains sugar and a lot of it.

Granola is flapjack, broken up into bits. It's glorious, but definitely not a health food.

LoveFridaynight · 21/04/2025 20:23

My 18 year old buys the Oreo cereal but like a PP she has it for pudding after lunch or tea. I don't like chocolate cereal but certainly don't have a problem with those who do.

SalfordQuays · 21/04/2025 20:23

Ah I do love a smug food thread OP. For what it’s worth, I was brought up as your kids are. Healthy whole foods all the way. Of course I rebelled in my student years, and ate crap, but since being a proper adult I’ve reverted to the healthy stuff. Always had loads of fruit in the house, fresh veg with every meal, minimal processed foods etc. When DS1 started solids I made everything from scratch, followed all the best baby cookery books. And guess what - the little sod would barely eat any of it. I’d watch the other toddlers eating fresh fruit, and DS would simply spit it out. All of it. DS2 came along and was exactly the same. Getting them to eat healthy food was a long hard slog, especially as a working single parent.

I’ve done my best to fight the battles. They will both eat vegetables very readily. But they’re teens now and they love junk more than anything.

You’re lucky that you’ve clearly never had a toddler who will actually starve before eating wholemeal toast with whole nut butter, or whatever rubbish it was you were spouting.

Zanatdy · 21/04/2025 20:23

My DD ate lots of coco pops, didn’t affect her concentration or brain power considering she left school with 12 x grade 9’s. If you don’t want to feed your child cereal, then don’t, but plenty of people do, and their DC are happy and healthy. Getting some food into them before we rushed off for school and work was a win in my book.

Chellybelle · 21/04/2025 20:23

My younger kids have it occasionally. My teenage DC buy it for themselves and eat it quite regularly. Why are you arsed what random strangers eat? Not got much of a life?

FatherFrosty · 21/04/2025 20:24

tireddad1978 · 21/04/2025 20:05

We buy it on holiday, and it has also been extended to other special occasions like birthdays. Coco pops seems quite reasonable compared to some of the newer ones. Did not know about Lion bar cereal - need to check this out.

You do. It’s amazing. I’ve just had a handful (no milk!) whilst making a cup of tea.

EagleOnAPole · 21/04/2025 20:25

My kids have been eating coco pops as a holiday treat. I bought Lion bar cereal at Christmas for my eldest. My kids have also discovered the delights of stirring a teaspoon of chocolate spread into a bowl of hot milky porridge. Someone should probably call social services, but do it quickly as they will be back to Shreddies when the coco pops run out.

chineapplepunks · 21/04/2025 20:25

We always have one ‘healthy’ kids cereal, one ‘healthy’ adults cereal and then one full-of-sugar fun one!

BatchCookBabe · 21/04/2025 20:25

Zanatdy · 21/04/2025 20:20

Clearly plenty of people or they wouldn’t be on sale.

Yeah clearly plenty of people buy them/give them to their kids.

That's why there is an obesity crisis in the UK.

FatherFrosty · 21/04/2025 20:26

LittleBearPad · 21/04/2025 20:15

Cobblers.

No one thought coco pops were healthy in the 80s or 90s either.

Fortified cereal (so coco pops, Frosties etc)was definitely marketed as a healthy breakfast when I was a kid

Heyheyitsanotherday · 21/04/2025 20:27

My bigger confusion is why on earth someone would post a dick comment on a public forum to just make other people feel shit.
yep the cereals aren’t healthy. Everyone knows that.
What was your intention for posting this? To gain some superiority that you never buy them? Or to berate and look down on the people that do??
people are so strange to do this.

Zanatdy · 21/04/2025 20:27

And you can’t get obese with porridge, eggs, sausages etc?

FleurDeFleur · 21/04/2025 20:28

Zanatdy · 21/04/2025 20:27

And you can’t get obese with porridge, eggs, sausages etc?

You certainly can with all that pork and duck.

Chick981 · 21/04/2025 20:28

I hope you’re not my GP OP, you don’t sound like you have much empathy and you are v judgemental.

MattCauthon · 21/04/2025 20:28

I am. Certain there are families having chocolate cereals for breakfast, poor quality bread and ham for lunch and cheap chicken nuggets and chips for dinnerN every day.

But come on Oap, even those families, surely as a GP you have at least SOME insight into why and how?

Meanwhile, most of us have that sort of cereal as part of an overall healthy diet, benefiting from the fact they are fortified. DS is 5ft10, 14, has the start of a six pack, plays rugby, basketball and football. He also has chocolate weetabix a few times a week - sometimes as part of his breakfast, sometimes as an after school snack. He also eats all the pompous "healthy" foods OPs children enjoy. And his breakfast is regularly eggs and sourdough toast, homemade granola and yoghurt, porridge or overnight oats (with sugar and palm free nut butters!), or home made wholewheat, oat and banana muffins.....

BendingSpoons · 21/04/2025 18:57

I quite like chocolate cereal for dessert sometimes. (At dinner time, not breakfast). Pretty sure lots are eating them fairly regularly for breakfast.

Breakfast desserts do sound appealing…

It may have been marketed that way but the fact that chocolate/sugar covered cereal isn't healthy isn’t that mind blowing!

AmberDuckIng · 21/04/2025 20:29

I ate chocolate cereal almost every day as a child and have been in superb physical and mental health my whole life. Have never taken a sick day or weighed more than 9 stone with the exception of two pregnancies so am finding this thread and some people’s fear for my health quite amusing.Grin

HÆLTHEPAIN · 21/04/2025 20:29

I buy it for my teenagers who have the odd bowl.

anon0102 · 21/04/2025 20:30

What’s wrong with balance @Blueyseviltwinans why are you so judgy? There are kids that are abused and starved out there. My 2 year old has a beige dinner once or twice a week, cod fish fingers and smiley faces or chicken dippers and chips. The rest of the time she digs in to salmon, homemade veg rice, pasta with homemade bolognese sauce with loads of veggies blended in, she loves her fruit. You’re very judgy and come across as snobby. Oh and she loves honey cheerios for breakfast! Call social services 😱

Heyheyitsanotherday · 21/04/2025 20:30

Also… IF you are a GP you should know better. Go and educate yourself on the whys of social deprivation and unhealthy diets.

LittleBearPad · 21/04/2025 20:30

Or did you also believe that Marlboros would make you a devastatingly sexy cowboy too?

I might have had breakfast dessert once or twice...
