We're going to Venicd in May for 4 days

I'm looking for recommendations for decent places to eat. It can be so hit & miss.

We're not looking for Michelin stars (or that price range) & we're open to everything from Chichetti to pizza / pasta / seafood. We like traditional trattorias etc but it's so easy to eat badly there

Nice bars too if anyone has anything special they've found

Thanks a million

Harry’s Bar is very good - Iconic Bellinis. I’ve stayed at the Aman Hotel (beautiful) and it has a lovely bar if you fancy drinks (restaurant also excellent).

The Black Cat in Burano is one of the best meals I ever had in my life.

Seconded, it’s a wonderful place and Burano is beautiful.

Would also recommend L’Osteria de Santa Marina in Venice itself.

IMO Harry’s bar is overpriced and you are largely paying for the name. It is fun though.

I think you’d get more responses posting on the Holiday thread. My absolute favourite restaurants are Alle Testiere (if you can get in - you need to book) and Il Gatto Nero (Burano) - mentioned above. Antiche Carampane in San Polo is also excellent. La Palanca on Guidecca is also nice for lunch.

Thank you!

Some great suggestions here which i look forward to browsing!

We've had the iconic Bellinis in Harry's Bar & they were nice but vastly overpriced. We enjoyed sitting there having a good look around the room etc but no real desire to go back.

We've eaten a couple of times in Da Ivo & thought it was really excellent so will definitely book a table there for one of the nights.

It's great to have some more recommendations too.

I can really recommend Osteria al Squero in Dorsoduro, directly opposite the boatyard. It’s tiny inside so most people take their plate of cicchetti and Spritz outside and eat sitting on the wall by the canal. TBH most cicchetti places and bars in Dorsoduro were excellent, in a fairly informal way (far enough from San Marco and close enough to the uni to be interesting without being excessively expensive). I always had my morning brioche and espresso at Caffe Rosso on Campo Santa Margarita.
