Yes I'm sure they have

BatchCookBabe · 19/04/2025 20:18

That's daft. There were loads for £4 to £6 in Morrisons today. No need to spend £15 at all!

Obviously they have gone up in price. Everything has, but it's over-dramatic to suggest anyone has to pay £15 for an Easter Egg!

Octavia64 · 19/04/2025 20:18

Well if you bought it today…..

SwanOfThoseThings · 19/04/2025 20:19

I noticed the larger ones were quite dear this year.

WoodyOwl · 19/04/2025 20:19

What?! You can get them for under £2 for a small one, under a fiver for a normal sized one. How big is the £15 one and where was it bought?

Motomum23 · 19/04/2025 20:20

Madness spending that amount on chocolate unless it's really really really good quality. The large Cadbury ones were £5 in the supermarkets.

Cadbury chunky easter egg £16 originally
I got it when it was reduced though at £12
It's of course one of the bigger ones.
So yes it depends which one you choose

Nant90 · 19/04/2025 20:20

I'm sure the ones that are currently around £1.50 were £1 last year but there is no need to be paying £15, that's for sure.

Ihitthetarget · 19/04/2025 20:21

Apparently the price of cocoa has gone up due to climate conditions/ low yields last year.

That said, I've seen lots on sale for less than that.

TeenLifeMum · 19/04/2025 20:22

We got nice Cadbury ones for £8.98 for 2.

That said, food has soot up again. my food shop has been £245-£250 a week for months but now I’m struggling to stay under £270.

dementedpixie · 19/04/2025 20:22

Lindt bunny ones were down to £15 from £20 in tesco the other day.
We bought large ones for £11 down from £15
There are smaller ones too than are cheaper

MouldyCandy · 19/04/2025 20:23

My 100g Cadbury buttons egg was something like £1.50. If you are going for premium chocolate and a larger egg, it's going to cost more. Even the regular 100g bars of Lindt etc are around £3 now.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 19/04/2025 20:23

I've been comparing the weight of average Easter eggs this year with good bars of chocolate (e.g. a 300g egg for £14 compared with a couple of bars of Green and Black's chocolate, or decent Waitrose fair trade of similar weight) and decided not to bother this year.

Also looked at top end Easter Eggs which are even more crazy (Betty's 400g hand decorated egg for £45!?)

Total rip off.

Pineapplewaves · 19/04/2025 20:24

The big Lindt eggs were £15.00 this year, I think they were £12.00 last year. Cadbury Eggs were £2.45 each in Tesco and £2.32 each in Asda this week - you could have had four of those for £10.00, had a lot more chocolate and saved £5.00.

rach2713 · 19/04/2025 20:32

I did buy the smaller ones. I was just a bit taken a back as didn't remember them being as much last year.

You do have to shop around now to get the best deal e.g medium milky bar egg was £4 in Sainsbury’s and £2.34 in Asda. The small Cadbury eggs were £2 in Sainsbury’s and £1 for Tesco club card for a couple of weeks. Overall unfortunately prices have definitely increased.

ConnieHeart · 19/04/2025 20:36

I got xl Cadbury ones for £4 each down from £6 in Tesco. The 'large' ones (that aren't actually very large at all) were about £2.50 on offer, around £4 full price. No need to spend £15. But they've definitely gone up in price

Charlize43 · 19/04/2025 20:55

They'll be slashing them on Tuesday in Lidl. Last year they went down to 50p.

ChocolateAddictAlways · 19/04/2025 21:03

The largest Lindt eggs were reduced at Waitrose and Sainsburys and were £15 down from £20. I appreciate they’re quite elaborate and you get lots inside but still, our children got eggs that were £3 each 😂

There’s a luxury chocolate brand called Cocoba (or something similar?) and they had a 4kg egg for £180. It is huuuuge. I mean it’s stunning but what do you even do with an egg that big and thick?! You’d literally have to take a hammer to it.

Overhaul54 · 19/04/2025 21:06

The interesting own brand Eaitrose ones were £18+ . They are only shells albeit better flavours but it’s yes it’s stupid for thin chocolate.
There was loads left this year. They are so interchangeable now. They are all just a milk chocolate egg. boring box witha bar or two rattling round
I loved the old Easter eggs with fabulous packaging and sweets or chocolates hidden inside a pretty shell,

SleepingisanArt · 19/04/2025 21:19

As a PP said the price of cocoa has really gone up (began in 2024 and continues). The 'cheaper' brands use less cocoa solids so their price increase is not as noticeable but for the 'better' brands the increase is more significant. Some eggs are still hand decorated and the cost of labour has increased here in the UK so you have a double whammy. (Oh and some of the Cadbury eggs weigh less than they did last year....)

HGP · 19/04/2025 21:32

I’m a pastry chef and the price of chocolate in general has shot up. It’s to do with the low cocoa production because of the weather and it’ll be set to increase more. In the last 5 years my wholesale chocolate price has increased over 300%

It’s rubbish!
