111 for a headache?

This is day 7 or 8. It’s constant and in one spot. (Above my eye). It doesn’t respond to painkillers of any type at all. Every morning I wake up with a tightness across my forehead before it settles above my right eye and builds in severity throughout the day. It’s a pressure type pain. I’ve tried to get a GP appointment and been fobbed off/ told there are no appointments and I’ll need to try the next day. Now it’s Easter and obviously nothing is open. Would you wait until Tuesday and try GP again? Just wondering if this is a 111 issue or not? I’ve never used the service before and feels like it needs to be urgent before you call.

I have had migraines for 30 years and was still sent for a neurological check when I had a new symtom that appeared to be migraine related. The first time you have it, you just can't tell. I would call 111 because they may be able to send you somewhere with an appointment, not just to wait in a queue (at least they can where I live).

I would at least do a 111 online flow for headaches to see what it suggests.

I've always been told a persistent headache which doesn't go away with pain relief should be seen.

I'd phone NHS 24 and let a nurse decide.

111 online.
I used them recently and they called me back within the hour.

Whenever I’ve had Covid I’ve had horrendous headaches that last over a week but always worth being checked if you’re worried.

You really should be assessed in person, so a walk-in centre or A&E. My GP sent me to A&E with a sudden onset headache, A&E were fine about me going. I ended up being admitted for over a week as it was quite an unusual neurological condition, so I'm glad I went.

@BambooLanda how are you?
Did you call 111 or go to A&E?

Can a migraine last over a week? I’ve never had one before and if that’s what this is they are absolutely vicious

I had one that did. It was intracranial hypertension.

My headache started later than evening but I never linked the two things together and they could be completely unrelated

I rang 111 after failing to get a GP appointment.
Turned out that 111 had dedicated appointments at my surgery and suddenly they were able to fit me in.
Definitely give 111 a try.

GP you have to call at 8am to get an appointment. I call at exactly 8am and am always somehow at least 20-30 in the queue. By the time I get through to anyone I’m told there are no same day appointments left for today and to try again tomorrow. Told for urgent matters to go to A&E. But it’s obviously not urgent enough for that so we just cycle through the same thing every day.

The trick is to dial the number at 7.56 or 7.57. Then by the time you’re through the messages they give it’s 8:00 and the lines are ringing.
