What do you do with the spare washing up glove when the other one breaks?

We have a large collection of left-hand washing up gloves as the right one always breaks first, presumably because we're both right-handed. I don't like to bin the left hand glove as it's still usable and seems a waste, so I keep them.
Sometimes I use a left-hand glove on my right hand to use them up. MIL says she turns a left-hand one inside out to use on her right hand. I've often thought that it would be helpful if a pack of gloves came with a spare right-hand gloves, or if you could buy single gloves. Are we the only people who have this problem?

YABU - just bin it like a normal person
YANBU - shops should sell spares!

You can cut them up to make rubber bands out of them 🤪

Agix · 17/04/2025 13:46

Make a funny chicken

JazzyJelly · 17/04/2025 13:47

I keep it as a spare until one of the opposite hand breaks. But I really hate waste too.

SheherazadesSpringNonsense · 17/04/2025 13:47

I turn them inside out like your MIL

LittleGreenDragons · 17/04/2025 13:51

I used to turn them inside out too. Or keep for pulling up weeds from flower pots or other messy jobs that only require one glove.

Now I make DD wash up (no gloves) Grin

Time40 · 17/04/2025 14:09

Turn them inside-out, of course.

Ooh, my daughter would like that one!

I use it on the wrong hand, but I never considered turning it inside out.
Total Game changer, I’m a bit excited for when my next one rips.

Turn it inside out

I turn them inside out like your MIL

This is what I do. I assumed everyone did.

IReallyLoveItHere · 17/04/2025 14:14

I think you are cruel to separate it from its mate. They go to glove heaven together.

ParadiseLaundry · 17/04/2025 14:40

I'm quite ashamed to admit that I'd never thought of turning the left handed one inside out Blush

I'll be doing that in future though!

Augustus40 · 17/04/2025 14:43

At 69 pence in Home Bargains I throw them away.

ilparadodosdoltos · 17/04/2025 14:46

I’m left handed so the left breaks first. Maybe I should be looking for a r handed glove buddy. Maybe I should invent a glove swapping app that’s a lot less filthy than it sounds.

Darkclothes · 17/04/2025 14:46

Put them on olio for free. You might find a left handed person with a pile of right handed ones to swap.

or buy a dishwasher!

Darkclothes · 17/04/2025 14:48

@ilparadodosdoltos cross post. The app you want it called olio. You can put on things you want to get rid of, but also put a wanted post on there 'Looking for left handed washing up gloves' etc.

Wingedharpy · 17/04/2025 14:49

Turn it inside out and use it for "in the garage" jobs. (just so visitors don't think I'm tight.)

FullOfLemons · 17/04/2025 14:57

I had not thought of turning inside out (shameful I know)

However I think I will keep binning them (even more shameful and my apologies to the planet)

Opening up a new packet of Marigolds, putting on fresh gloves, and getting stuck into a pile of washing up is a real treat

That’s amazing. I had no idea! I can finally be of some use to the world!😁

I think you need to share a picture of this!

@Darkclothes We already have a dishwasher, but somehow still end up doing a lot of washing up - saucepans, oven trays etc don't fit in the dishwasher.

This made me laugh, because I feel exactly the same!

I try and avoid sending unnecessary waste to land fill. Every little helps.

Mine too!

AprilshowersOnandOnforHoursandHours · 17/04/2025 19:17

Like many previous posters I turn the undamaged left hand glove inside out and wear it on my right hand.

I also buy slightly more expensive gloves in the first place, as they last longer.
