Sunbed Shock

I’ve been really stupid and gone on the sunbed for twenty minutes and the burns I’ve got - I’ve never seen skin as red. I’ve got like indents to my skin as though I’ve woken to stretch marks on my chest. Will these disappear? I’m in agony. I’ve never burnt and so didn’t know it could cause this kind of pain. I’m shaking shivering. I did this yesterday. Can someone reassure my health anxiety that these indents will all calm down?

Someone not having knowledge might be factual. I don't think it's particularly insulting?

Plus you can’t know if it’s factual because you do not know my husband.

Penicillin doesn’t cause sun sensitivity. However, other antibiotics (especially acne ones) usually do.

I’ve recently had antibiotics for a chest infection and was told to keep out of the sun. Not sure of their name but you take 2 on day one and then 1 tablet for the rest of the week

As I said, some antibiotics do cause sun sensitivity.

That would have been doxycycline.

Oh my God, that's absolutely horrific. Poor girl.
These shouldn't be allowed to operate - but if they do, they need to be under the strictest regulations.

Notgonnalieaboutthis · 24/04/2025 19:48

Atrocious.

Superhansrantowindsor · 25/04/2025 06:43

How is there not better regulation or an outright ban of these things?

Just saw this and thought of this thread:

Hope you’re on the mend now OP!

I saw this and should be really thankful it’s not me. I have just got over the pain and my skin is slowly recovering now. I will have damaged my skin but it doesn’t look like I will scar.

Even though I knew the associated risks, I’ve been feeling so low in myself I wanted a tan to “boost” me, which is sad. I am religious about spf - in Oppenheimer when Edward Teller is slathering himself in spf. That’s me. So it was a shit show really what I did, as I covered my face on the sunbed. So going to a&e in a big fleeced coat with my face looking fine, but my body burnt to a crisp, I was so confused with pain and sun stroke that maybe that is another reason I was dismissed at first in a&e.

I wasn’t fully able to take in all what was being said at the time but @MissScarletInTheBallroom your comments on a re-read have made me laugh. You are correct, I’m a northern Yorkshire chav, more kitchen maid than ballroom, I wear a wolf fleece and my name is Chelsea

I am really glad you are on the mend, you must have felt horribly unwell

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 03/05/2025 10:52

so glad you are on the mend.
I'm also a burner and did burn on holidays when I was younger and didn't know better. I had a sun bed for my wedding ( didn't even make any difference) but was really told off by a dermatologist.
Take great care for the next few months... your skin will be super sensitive to sunlight. If you see any moles or are worried at all - straight to the GP and if you are not satisfied and still need support/info try one of the skin charties there are several including the British Skin Foundation if you live in UK.

LittlerCharlotte · 04/05/2025 14:02

Very glad to hear from you x
