Sunbed Shock

SansaStark90 · 16/04/2025 17:09

I’ve been really stupid and gone on the sunbed for twenty minutes and the burns I’ve got - I’ve never seen skin as red. I’ve got like indents to my skin as though I’ve woken to stretch marks on my chest. Will these disappear? I’m in agony. I’ve never burnt and so didn’t know it could cause this kind of pain. I’m shaking shivering. I did this yesterday. Can someone reassure my health anxiety that these indents will all calm down?

How much pain are you in now? Has the shaking stopped?

If the codeine is sufficient and you have stopped shaking then make an appointment with your gp in the morning. Keep you fluids up and rest.

If you are still in agony and still feel feverish, shaking etc… then you will have to go back.

GP's are closed until Tuesday now. OP needs to go back to A&E.

SALaw · 17/04/2025 19:09

You can re-present to a&e

Oual · 17/04/2025 19:09

You need to get out of the bath of tomatoes and go back to the hospital, explain it’s worse etc and the codeine hasn’t helped with the shivering etc. if you’re shivering that badly you really do need to go back and explain everything and hopefully the nurses can help you explain

Simonjt · 17/04/2025 19:10

You’ve covered burned skin in acidic tomatoes?!

Willwetalk · 17/04/2025 19:13

Go the f* back. Please.

CheeseAndHamToastieAndCrisps · 17/04/2025 19:13

Please don’t tell me some idiot suggested putting tomatoes on a burn. FML.

ShelfyElfy25 · 17/04/2025 19:17

Dear god please go back to a&e. This could go very badly wrong. Just go back. Now. And PLEASE don't put acidic tomatoes on your poor skin xx

WinterBones · 17/04/2025 19:17

you do not put tomatoes on a burn

FFS.

Go back to A&E

Yes, I saw that post but I didn't dream OP would actually do it.

PLEASE go back to A&E and this time show the extent of your burns and make sure you are understood.

Woodburnerisout · 17/04/2025 19:19

I'm begining to think this maybe isn't all strictly true....

WinterBones · 17/04/2025 19:19

I'm really struggling to believe this is true at this point.. i'm genuinely gobsmacked that a grown adult could be this stupid from start to finish.

And no i'm not troll hunting before i get reported, but come on, jesus christ.

faerietales · 17/04/2025 19:20

I honestly can't quite believe you sat in a bath of acidic tomatoes instead of asking for a second opinion.

You have 2nd degree burns to 80% of your body. You could go into shock if you don't get yourself appropriate medical care today.

Yes me too, I've been on here for 21 years and dont often give posters the side but this. 👀

ThatLilacTiger · 17/04/2025 19:21

You're being passive and acting helpless to the extent that it's putting your life at risk. You didn't know how long you should go on the sunbed for, but were too meek to ask so you just burned yourself senseless. You were too embarrassed to seek help from your GP. You were swayed by your mum to go against medical advice to attend A&E. Then when you eventually did, you didn't bother advocating for yourself.

Can you please get a grip and take some ownership of your actions before you get yourself really badly hurt. I don't want to sound cruel but this pathetic faffing helpless thing is my pet hate and you're taking it to extremes.

WinterBones · 17/04/2025 19:21

if anyone knows where the tomato post is please report it for being dangerously stupid medical advice.

I was also sceptical about putting tomatoes on sunburn, however, a quick internet search brings up several hits which say that "applying tomato juice or paste to the skin can provide some relief from redness and inflammation".
Who knew?🤔

XelaM · 17/04/2025 19:21

Of all the advice on the thread you chose the tomato bath?!? 😱

Yep, glad I'm not the only one, tbh.

Who gives themselves 2nd degree burns to 80% of their body, then lies in a bath of tinned tomatoes based on advice from a total random on the internet? Confused

SansaStark90 · 17/04/2025 19:21

saveforthat · 17/04/2025 19:03

I'm really sorry you are so badly burnt op and the doctor who assessed you sounds awful but I don't understand how you can have porcelain skin (like me) and still tan easily in the sun/go without SPF in Thailand, the two are usually mutually exclusive. I can't do two hours on a hot day in the UK without SPF.

When I was booking in at reception in a&e, she actually mentioned tomatoes aswell so I thought this was a thing!! Then I stood under the cold shower for half an hour.

I am unusual and I would like to know my genetics as I don’t know if you’ve seen the photo I posted on the small area I haven’t burned, but I’m as pale as can be. But in the actual sun have never burned and go from porcelain Celtic skin to people have spoken Greek to me thinking I’m local as I have black hair and tanned that deep.

Jeez, more sensible than going to A&E and actually getting properly assessed??

This isn't just a minor sunburn though, this is 2nd degree burns to over 80% of her body.

CheeseAndHamToastieAndCrisps · 17/04/2025 19:23

You don’t put anything on a burn! Other than to wrap it in cling film and attend a&e. FFS!

I’m also having my doubts now..

You shouldn't wrap it in clingfilm either 😬

I live in a hot country and so know that eating tomatoes gives very slight sun protection. But slight as in still needing SPF.

I have never heard of bathing in them though.
