Weird thoughts other people must think...

Surely everyone has a fleeting thought of the bath falling through the ceiling whilst they're in it?

Does anyone else have this thought?

And other recurring little thoughts people have that other people must also think?

The bath one has crossed my mind semi-regularly since it happened in an episode of Corrie about 20 years ago🤣

Our loft is full of junk and it's above our bedroom so if I ever hear any tiny creaking noises (just normal house noises) when I'm lying in bed I get worried that all the heavy junk in the loft is going to come crashing through the ceiling onto the bed... Should probably just get up there and clear all the junk out then I could set that worry aside!

When I hear the loft creaking, a little voice in my head says there is someone in there. Shock (Maybe the Shadow Man!) 😱

Oh yeah, with Les and Cilla! 😆

Walking upstairs in the dark so as not to wake the kids with the landing light. I always imagine someone crawling fast up the stairs behind me 😬

If I have to go back downstairs at night, I'm terrified that I'm going to run into aliens (the small, humanoid-shaped ones) that have come into the house. Literally terrified 😬

(Though as opposed to the thread criteria, I doubt anyone has the same thought 🤣)

Mugcake · 15/04/2025 21:44

The bath one 😂 I definitely used to think that all the time!
Worrying that waterside would have a shutter that would come down and I'd get trapped
I still think what would I do if I had to go into witness protection, what name I'd choose etc (I know it doesn't work like that)

I have upstairs neighbours and think about their bath coming through the ceiling and crushing me while I'm in mine (even though I don't even know if they have a bath, and the bathroom is not directly above mine ! 😁)

Just when I'm going to bed after a horror movie. My brain goes ..oh, gosh, wouldn't it be awful if I imagined a hand grabbing me out of my bed... And then it's all I can think about and going to the loo in the middle of the night feels like a Herculean act of bravery.

And this is why I can no longer watch horror movies 😂

AngelinaFibres · 15/04/2025 21:44

If I'm the last one up at night then I worry that when I've turned the last light off downstairs I'll hear a voice saying " get out"

Whenever I see a bunk bed, I can't fathom who would happily sleep on the bottom bunk.

Also, when I throw an apple core away, I have to chop it/break it in two, just in case it gets lonely.

It wasn’t a choice in our overcrowded house, and it was better than sharing a small double with my sisters!

Many people on this thread should take very great care to avoid Chuck ‘Fight Club) Palahniuk’s short story ‘Guts’.

H0LLOW · 15/04/2025 21:50

Often wonder about what word I have said most in my life.

also when in the woods or countryside, beach etc I wonder how many humans have touched that bit of land or if I’m the first.

Jellyjellyonaplate · 15/04/2025 21:51

Ever since I was a kid when I'm watching a live concert I'll imagine I'm suddenly switched into the body of the lead singer / lead violinist etc. I think it started when I was bored watching my sister's concerts but it became something that made my heart race for hours each time just wondering what the hell I'd do.

Anyone else had the same??

Jellyjellyonaplate · 15/04/2025 21:54

Oh also I have recurrent thoughts about where I'd hide a dead body if I killed someone. I am about as far from being a murderer as you can get but the thought pops unwanted into my head especially when driving alone
Urgh!

I wonder the same: whether I’m the first person to walk on a bit of land.

Also, when on big walks, down ancient paths and the like, I often think of the people who definitely have been there before me. What they were carrying, what they were chatting to their companions about, where their end destination was etc

TY78910 · 15/04/2025 21:55

Whenever I’m in a non-European country I do express toilet trips because I’m scared (totally irrationally) that a snake or spider is gonna bite me in the arse coming up the toilet bowl 😂😂😂😂

WhatMe123 · 15/04/2025 21:32

I also used to think about how, when I lived alone, if I ever choked on my food how long would it be u til someone found me 😂 used to love that one when it popped in 😂

I live on my own and a few weeks ago I almost choked on a tiny tablet that got stuck in my throat. Luckily it cleared but my backup plan is getting to the house over the road where he’s a sports coach as I figure he must know first aid!!

Was proper terrifying though!! While choking I wondered how long before anyone realised something was wrong and how embarrassing to die like that….

XWKD · 15/04/2025 21:58

I always imagine pulling the handle on the emergency exit on a plane. It doesn't work when the plane is flying, but still...

Newnameahoy · 15/04/2025 21:58

Haha I do this all the time with bath - almost every time I get in it! I also think that whatever car is next to me on the one way system is going to drive into me and cause merry hell (I'm a genuinely very confident driver of 20 years - there is a single one way system that has this effect!

I also think, everytime I get a bunch of spring onions out of the fridge; what would happen if I whacked DH on the head - there is no logical reason for this one. I did actually donk him once - it didn't help 🤣

Literally an hour ago I thought this 😅

autisticbookworm · 15/04/2025 22:00

When I go to the theatre if I’m in the balcony I imagine jumping over onto the people below!!

Sometimes when I’m driving I get a thought to spin the car.

both thought make my legs feel shaky.

I’ve called the police nicely on an old neighbour as in elderly because we hadn’t seen him for some time. Got to about a week 😬

Newbie887 · 15/04/2025 22:02

When I’m at the beach I often look at the sand / pebbles / shells and think how lucky they are to be the very tiny percentage that’s ended up out of the water compared to the vast amount that are under the sea.

I also do the bath one 😂.

I have a few of these. Getting a papercut on my eyeball. No idea what scenario would lead to that happening but still something I think about.

Since I dislocated my knee I often think of being able to grab the knee cap of my other knee and pull it off. It makes me wince a bit but I think it's because the dislocated knee has never felt right since it happened so I think about damaging the other to balance things up a bit.

I also think about various disasters happening when I'm at work (natural or terrorist) and how I would get to safety.

Whenever my son scoots home from school I can see him falling into the road and his head going under a car tyre. Scares me witless and I have to try really hard to not let my anxieties be known to him.

My son was run over and it took the driver a few minutes to drive back off his body. Now every time I go over a crossing I think it's going to happen again. The especially annoying thing is that I've been nervous crossing the road his whole life because a friend of a friend lost their toddler when my son was a newborn. To actually have my fear realised years later hasn't been good. The fact both of these incidents happened on a proper crossing makes it even worse.

BeaLola · 15/04/2025 22:04

Haven't read all replies and this is perhaps not the same but when I load dishwasher I always think the knifes are going to drop onto my foot and stab me

Oldermum84 · 15/04/2025 21:15

Yes the bath one!! Thought it was just me!

I also think this sometimes about the bath. I attribute it to seeing it happen in a film called 'The money pit'.

This happened near when I live on a playground slide. Luckily no one was hurt but I think about what could have happened. Makes me shudder.

What? A children's slide? People are evil 😥
