Weird thoughts other people must think...

Surely everyone has a fleeting thought of the bath falling through the ceiling whilst they're in it?

Does anyone else have this thought?

And other recurring little thoughts people have that other people must also think?

I live in the desert and am scared every time I sit on the toilet that a rattlesnake is going to bite my bum when I sit down 🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣

I’m also a perpetual “shoe shaker” because scorpions 🤮

If I’m in the bath I’m really scared a shark is going to come bursting out of the plug hole.

It could happen you know

I sometimes worry a snake is going to come up out of the toilet and bite my bum. I have been known to check, although I know this is ridiculous.

PigInADuvet · 15/04/2025 21:23

not fear/risk related, but I spend far too much time wondering whether I've ever drank the same water molecule twice

Oh no, I'm so sorry! Shock Nightmare On Elm Street vibes! 😱

used to have a video as a child where dolls and stuff came alive raggedy Anne?

Anyway that gave me nightmares for years my wardrobes where going to come to life and jump on me in bed killing me. Henry Hoover the bastard would chase me and suck me up hose nozzle, even reaching around the doors.

Still can’t not side eye a Henry to this day.

Mum had to actually cut up that video tape in front of me to stop those nightmares.

MoreDangerousThanAWomanScorned · 15/04/2025 21:24

My mum once said to me 'do you ever suddenly halfway through having a wee panic and think "what if I'm sat on a random chair, not a toilet"?!'. I hadn't ever had that thought before but do all the time now - thanks mum!

At least you have sensible reasons to consider this!
I think it's unlikely where I am in UK suburbia.

Just remembered I was at the top of a waterslide today and suddenly panicked that someone might have imbedded razor blades in the slide. Used to be a regular fear but haven’t had it for a while until today.

This happened near when I live on a playground slide. Luckily no one was hurt but I think about what could have happened. Makes me shudder.

scalt · 15/04/2025 21:26

One thing that puzzled me as a child was: when I was blindfolded, why couldn’t I see the pattern on the scarf? I was once so fixated on this, I forgot what I was supposed to be doing (pointing in the direction of someone clapping, when testing directional hearing).

InsaneInTheMamBrain · 15/04/2025 21:27

That a hand will shoot out from under the bed and grab my ankle as I am getting into bed.

Something will get my foot if it is out of the cover at night.

Rats/ snakes slithering up and out of the toilet.

An invisible someone will push me down the stairs as I am going down or that someone is lurking waiting to chase me up the stairs as I am going up.

Mine is only minor compared but I'm a teacher and I always have this fear when I sit down on my spinning chair after walking round room/writing on the board, I'm going to miss it and fall straight on my bum

This did happen to me in front of a class...and I did also fall over on a separate occasion 🤣

The kids didn't know whether to laugh or not. Obviously it was a tad embarrassing but I made a joke out of it

OMG I used to get this too - again, moreso as a child!

Upstartled · 15/04/2025 21:30

Just when I'm going to bed after a horror movie. My brain goes ..oh, gosh, wouldn't it be awful if I imagined a hand grabbing me out of my bed... And then it's all I can think about and going to the loo in the middle of the night feels like a Herculean act of bravery.

heartsinvisiblefury · 15/04/2025 21:30

I always worry about the people living in the very bottom flats of high rise buildings as they have every one else’s heavy furniture (and baths) all on top of their ceiling.

Muttley17 · 15/04/2025 21:30

Walking upstairs in the dark so as not to wake the kids with the landing light. I always imagine someone crawling fast up the stairs behind me 😬

WhatMe123 · 15/04/2025 21:30

Yes I've often thought this whilst stood in the shower over our bath as if you ever see under a bath there is a gap between the bath and the floor your literally sat/stood on a piece of plastic and this makes my head hurt

I wonder things like that sometimes, but sort of connected to wondering if I'm actually old with dementia and not really doing what I think I'm doing.

Also occasionally panic I might have forgotten to put my trousers on when out and about. (Just as me now, not potential dementia related!)

I think this when I’m in high rise hotels!

WhatMe123 · 15/04/2025 21:32

I also used to think about how, when I lived alone, if I ever choked on my food how long would it be u til someone found me 😂 used to love that one when it popped in 😂

takealettermsjones · 15/04/2025 21:33

I often have the snake in the toilet thought 🤣

If I've been out somewhere at night and I'm walking back to my car, I sometimes worry that when I left the car I forgot to lock it, so someone might have got in, locked the doors behind them, and then hidden in the rear footwells waiting to jump out at me. So I check the back before I get in, and then immediately lock all the doors after I'm in!

I have NEVER thought this.. Shock But I will from now on. 😆

seriouslynonames · 15/04/2025 21:36

Our loft is full of junk and it's above our bedroom so if I ever hear any tiny creaking noises (just normal house noises) when I'm lying in bed I get worried that all the heavy junk in the loft is going to come crashing through the ceiling onto the bed... Should probably just get up there and clear all the junk out then I could set that worry aside!

BELLAARA · 15/04/2025 21:38

Whenever I see a bunk bed, I can't fathom who would happily sleep on the bottom bunk.

Also, when I throw an apple core away, I have to chop it/break it in two, just in case it gets lonely.

uhtredsonofuhtred1 · 15/04/2025 21:39

As I walk through the airport after check in my mind imagines we’re in either a final destination type movie or a documentary about an awful plane crash.

Also, I have a weird fear of those umbrella type washing line things that stick in the ground. I imagine the wind lifting them up and spearing me
