Naturally black

Well, off black

I think that i will try and dye it brown then, as I'm just not fancying the copper look for this summer

You are going to make it worse

And it will take a very long time to recover

Please stop

NotQuiteUsual · 15/04/2025 17:01

I'm pretty good at home bleaching. I've been where you are and come out the other side. If you want you can pm me pics of your hair and I can give you some advice.

LetsWatchTheFlowersGrow · 15/04/2025 17:01

Is it a nice ginger? 😬

IsItAllRubbish · 15/04/2025 17:01

Salons are expensive because they (generally) know what their doing op. Oh dear!! Can we have some photos 😉

CandyCane457 · 15/04/2025 17:02

Whatever you do, don’t put anything else on it, especially more bleach. I did this when I was about 18, bleached it to ginger then bleached it again a few days later in the hope it would go blonde, and I am not exaggerating when I say about 70% of my hair fell out, it wasa horrific!

LittleBigHead · 15/04/2025 17:03

Well of course, if you're not actually naturally blonde, it'll look weird. See a hairdresser. You can't go blonde in any stylish way if your hair is black, but you could get bits of it lightened up to a dark brown.

ExtraOnions · 15/04/2025 17:06

To take my daugher from Dyed Black to Bright Blonde, took 3 sessions with a hairdresser, over about 3 months. It’s not easily done

isolate34 · 15/04/2025 17:09

Ah I did this op. I was after draco malfoy but the result was giving Ron weasley 😭😭😭

Uricon2 · 15/04/2025 17:10

Another reason why it's a bad idea to go very dark to light is the regrowth will be difficult to deal with, unless you like the obvious roots look.

Please see a hairdresser. There is no easy fix for this and anything you do yourself is likely to make it worse.

AusBoundDD · 15/04/2025 17:10

How on earth is this a surprise to you OP?

Feliciacat · 15/04/2025 17:11

I actually can get my hair from black to white blonde in one go but it requires much kit! I use a plastic cap to help it process evenly, I section it and use a barber’s mirror to get all the back and I only do my roots so that I’m not double processing it.

There are NO high street bleaches that can achieve this. Bleach London has the highest lift but it’s not enough and it’s very damaging as it’s 30 vol. So it just gives broken, ginger hair.

I use Schwarzkopf BlondeMe bleach with Schwarzkopf BlondeMe 20 developer, that gives me time to do all the parts of my head before the initial bits over process. You probably need 90g bleach and 135ml developer to ensure you get all your hair covered. Then put a plastic cap over it. Mix 45g with 68ml developer and do the front of your head then mix another 45g and 68ml developer and do the back. The back is warmer than the front. The first half of your head won’t develop beyond 45 minutes so you’ll be ok if it’s on for longer.

However, now that you’ve already damaged it, I would say it is hairdresser only. If you can grow out your hair to virgin hair then I can recommend the above technique.

ohwhatisinaname · 15/04/2025 17:19

I did this when I was 15. You need a real hairdresser. My 5 quid bottle of bleach ended up costing around 200 to "fix". It still looked somewhat green for a while after the fix. Not sure if that is better/worse than the luminous ginger that it was before. God speed.

DonewhatIcando · 15/04/2025 17:21

I've done similar.
The advice I was given was to use a semi permanent colour (brown but with a red base tone)
You need one several shades lighter than what you want as your hair will be porous and will suck up the colour.
Then step away from the bleach 😁 until your hair recovers, use this time to start saving for a hairdressers appointment.
😉

Boreded · 15/04/2025 17:27

I’ll be honest, I only came to this thread because I read: I tried to bleach my back hair 😂 I was very intrigued

ShadowTheHedgehog · 15/04/2025 17:31

Since you've lifted to ginger, you've got the perfect base for red hair. Maybe get a red semi permanent hair dye

Lazydomestic · 15/04/2025 17:33

Buy a wig
Grow it out ….

steff13 · 15/04/2025 17:36

To get black hair to go truly blonde it would likely take multiple visits to a salon. It's not going to do it on one application. If I were you and you can't afford to go to a salon to get it repaired I would leave it alone and quit while you're ahead.

SBHon · 15/04/2025 17:42

Another one saying hairdresser. If you do put box dye over it then don’t put a permanent dye on, use a semi permanent. BUT keep in mind the semi permanent dye may still be permanent as your hair may be very porous from bleaching.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 15/04/2025 17:46

If you can't afford a hairdresser, I'd google hair&beauty at your nearest college. You're likely to be able to improve the look of it very cheaply.

JackieDaytonaLuckyBrews · 15/04/2025 17:48

Yikes. Even a salon won't do black to blonde in one sitting.
I'd advise not touching it any further for the time being. How does it feel? Is it dry?
Obviously the best solution with the best end result would be a salon visit. Yes, it's expensive. It's depends how badly you want a good result and if you can stand living with the ginger for now.
I'd also advise looking at Brad Mondo on YouTube for advise. I'd also use some deep conditioning masks while you make a decision. DON'T be tempted to stick more bleach over the top -you'll end up pulling out hair in handfuls.

MyVIsForVendetta · 15/04/2025 17:50

I’m naturally blonde and the exact stuff you use also makes me go very yellow.

ive been there.

Don’t dye it brown, it will go green, again I’ve been there.

Ive been there quite a few times actually and the only thing that can possible help is an actual hair dressers unfortunately.

For it to go to brown, you first need a red undertone. Then brown. So if you are going to risk brown, go that way first.

You can try all the bleach washes, toners, purple washes in the world and nothing will help.

You need a hair dresser.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 15/04/2025 17:57

3luckystars · 15/04/2025 16:52

If you try dying it brown now it might go green.

You should google a colour correction specialist. There is a really good one where I live and she is no more expensive than a normal hairdresser and will really help you on the right path. Don’t do anything else yourself!!!!

Omg thank you! 😄

In Yr11, me and my friend tried to bleach our hair using hydrogen peroxide and toilet bleach.

I quite liked the whole ginger thing. It made a good base for the pillar box red I had all through that glorious post GCSE summer!

My friend's though started breaking off in clumps.

Unsurprisingly, my worst exam result was in Chemistry where I barely scraped a pass!

If you don't fancy masking it in something very bold in hue but super gentle and peroxide free in composition, do directly to a professional colourist.

I'd honestly be more worried about the condition than the colour.

Good luck!

😄 I've had my freak out, I'm kind of accepting it

I'm 33 and I never had that fun phase in your teens where you try this stuff! Thankfully, so far, no hair has fallen out 😳, I'm just embracing it and will keep it in an updo for now

Is it a nice ginger? 😬

Its not too bad, more copper! A lovely winter colour, and i think it was the fashionable colour last year!

Its a little uneven though 🙈😭, there are some black roots remaining

I was going to run out and grab some brown dye so after seeing the comments, I won't, as I'm just about coping with the ginger, let alone green 😄
