Go to a proper hairdresser to do it right . Black hair is never going to go blonde the first time . It takes a lot of time and patience . Bleaching at home and leaving it on too long will result in your hair snapping . Trust me , I've been there .

ButtCheeks · 15/04/2025 16:23

Do not do anything further!

Go to a reputable salon and ask to speak to an experienced colourist.

Black hair needs several bleaching processes to be even remotely approaching blonde. It’s basically impossible to do at home.

TheArcher · 15/04/2025 16:24

Yep definitely needs more than one bleaching session. Get it done professionally.

JandamiHash · 15/04/2025 16:25

Oh dear. What did you use OP?

KurtCobainLover · 15/04/2025 16:26

Echoing the recommendations to go to a salon. You might get away with slapping another round of bleach on at home but you risk your snapping off (which would be why I currently have a buzz cut).

Schwarzkoph live intense bleach 😳

It went a really bright yellow

Then I used a toner from another brand, now it's a copper ginger

I wanted to go blonde for the summer and then ginger for the winter 😭

Did you do any research?

😄 salons are super expensive 😩

Looks like I'm stuck as a coppery ginger tbh as I'm afraid of overbleaching

You can get informed for free but don't do anything more without advice in person from a hairdresser touching your hair to feel how much damage you may have done.

Youtube has a lot of videos and you need to understand how bleaching hair works and why your hair is ginger. Several professional hairdressers post but off the top of my head Brad Mondo and Hair Budha.

dementedpixie · 15/04/2025 16:28

What colour toner was it?
It's hard to go blonde from dark colours at home and can require several bleach sessions.

TwoTailFly · 15/04/2025 16:28

Is your hair naturally black or is it dyed? You can't go black to blonde in one go, literally impossible. If it's dyed black, you can use a colour remover to start removing the pigment but it will go orangey so you will probably want a brown semi-permanent colour for a while. Then you can bleach again but it'll take a lot of sessions to get blonde at home. If you don't want all your hair to fall out, spread the bleaching sessions over a couple of months!

I watched a few yt videos but my adhd wouldn't let me take in the complex details about lifting and percentages 🤦‍♀️

Salons are expensive because the hairdressers train and have experience doing this. Plus they use quality products and Olaplex to protect the hair.

Well, I thought it was purple but it wasn't, it was white

Supposed to make my hair blonde but it took it from yellow to ginger

Naturally black

Well, off black

I think that i will try and dye it brown then, as I'm just not fancying the copper look for this summer

In Yr11, me and my friend tried to bleach our hair using hydrogen peroxide and toilet bleach.

I quite liked the whole ginger thing. It made a good base for the pillar box red I had all through that glorious post GCSE summer!

My friend's though started breaking off in clumps.

Unsurprisingly, my worst exam result was in Chemistry where I barely scraped a pass!

If you don't fancy masking it in something very bold in hue but super gentle and peroxide free in composition, do directly to a professional colourist.

I'd honestly be more worried about the condition than the colour.

Good luck!

I saw your post about not being able to understand the percentages. It's obviously completely okay that you don't but this probably means being diy blonde is not for you. I do understand the formulations but still choose to get my hair bleached in the salon as bleaching really can make your hair snap off. I just tone at home using salon products so still need to understand the ratios and what % of activator to use.

Crazybaby123 · 15/04/2025 16:49

You can't go blonde, it will take such strong bleaching and constant upkeep that your hair will break and fall out. Think of black roots in a week.
The only thing you can do now is go to a hair dresser and ask them to sort it out. You will have to go back to brown probably.
I have gone as light as I can and it is still not blonde, it took a year of gradually fading it lighter and lighter, 100s of pounds in hairdresser costs and even then it became so brittle and dry I went back to brown.
I also had it stripped once, went bright ginger.
Dont dye it yourself now, the box dyes over the bleach could make it break off.
From someone who wanted to go from dark brown to blonde, tried for many years and finally gave up.

EmeraldRoulette · 15/04/2025 16:50

Honestly, it's not worth it

I've wasted money at the hairdresser once as well. Didn't come out any different than when I tried it. It didn't go ginger but it just didn't look very nice.

I think I've got the hair type that doesn't take very well to bleach. I think the hairdresser said it was very colour resistant.

I really wish I could liven up this mass of dark hair. If it was nice and smooth, I wouldn't mind so much

I've tried at home, I've tried at the hairdresser. It's just not worth it.

You should be alright to cover it up with a semi for now and then do it properly when your hair is recovered a bit.

oh, and while I was sitting at the hairdressers, waiting for fucking hours while the hair tried to change, someone came in crying, with a hat on, and asked what they could do about her hair which was breaking off in chunks after she bleached it.

They were very kind to her, but they did say she needed to cut most of it off.

3luckystars · 15/04/2025 16:52

If you try dying it brown now it might go green.

You should google a colour correction specialist. There is a really good one where I live and she is no more expensive than a normal hairdresser and will really help you on the right path. Don’t do anything else yourself!!!!

DaisyChain505 · 15/04/2025 16:54

You can’t dye black hair to blonde In one go. This is something that needs to be done gradually by a professional. Sorry @mumofoneAlonebutokay its not going to be what you want to hear but you’ve fucked up and need to get to a salon asap to save your hair before you do any more damage and it all breaks off.

Well that's your choice then.... pay the price at a salon, or pay the price with your hair.

There's a reason why dying your hair professionally is expensive... it stops things like this happening.

Go to a hairdresser!

You will make it worse and it could possibly break off

ClareClareClareClare · 15/04/2025 16:58

If there’s a local hair college they may do it cheap for you as a model?
