So my parents would sink thousands of pounds into making sure there were no discrepancies. All around them they saw people having their lives destroyed. I remember hating Wednesdays as a child because of the stress and arguing it caused
Now the shortfall scheme is screwing them again. They have literally been told by the post office due to the fact they are needing paperwork from before records were digitised that they need to go in to the archives. And that this is on the govt. The words “there’s nothing more we can do” was the last thing they were told. It’s been nigh on 5 months and have these archived records been found?? No! No one apparently has eyeballs on this.
They had settled into their retirement and put this all behind them. They were just grateful they weren’t imprisoned and were able to raise their children (albeit not far off the poverty line). This has brought back so much trauma.
