To report this as benefit fraud

A relative is claiming benefits, can’t work due to health but is one of those who is always complaining about something wrong with her but is always able to do the things she wants to do. Can holiday abroad, always down the gym, etc. When she was working she was always making complaints against employers- one of life’s victims.

She sold a property a couple of years ago and has squirrelled about £40k away through investments. I think has got her mother to do this for her.

I’m so fed up of seeing people like her take the piss. I 100% support a welfare system and it really pisses me off to see it abused like this. And meanwhile we are working our arses off and not able to afford the foreign travel and gym memberships.

I’m so tempted to report her secret savings to DWP.

You think somebody claiming a few grand in benefits

That comment and mentality is another reason why suspect fraudulent cases are not being reported as it is only seen as ‘a few grand’, when an awful lot of people are doing it it amounts to a hell of a lot of stolen money which could have been diverted to much better causes

Are you actually that daft????

Hastentoadd · 15/04/2025 22:18

BlessedBeTheGroot · 15/04/2025 21:59

That stolen money would never have been diverted to other causes though.

You don’t know that

HÆLTHEPAIN · 15/04/2025 22:19

May have been pointed out but although PIP is not means tested, if the OP’s relative is going to the gym then that potentially would against what she’s claiming PIP for.

I’m not saying people on PIP can’t go to the gym of course.

I could ask the same question of you🤷

Yep, I would. My ex’s mum claims her mental health is so bad that she can’t leave the house. She told pip that she hadn’t left the house in 2 years due to her mental health. There is nothing wrong with her, she openly admits to conning the system. She spends all her day in the pub or coffee shop and of a weekend she is at festival or club, she is NEVER home. It grinds my gears because she has a blue badge for this ‘mental health’ too.

Thanks for admitting that, some people on here seem to be in complete denial ( ignorance) that benefit fraud is being committed at all when it is actually going on all over the country and people are getting away with it

I always think the people who think like this are going to get a terrible shock when they find out how little the state thinks you can live on. The huge fraud cases I have seen are organised crime often with insiders helping and multiple identities. The amount of information I had to give when I had to fill in the attendance allowance form was astounding including all medical details and the name of the consultants and hospitals. I was told unless someone has medical equipment at home they don’t usually get it.

Truth is this person has no idea what is wrong with their relative or even what they are telling them is true. Most disability benefits are not dependent on income.

Are you going to report her,
Think about it, if you don’t, you are actually part of the problem, people like her are getting away with it as no one is reporting them even when they are fully aware that fraud is being committed
That woman sounds fit and able bodied and should be working instead of sponging

PIP is not an out of work benefit.

No, she has made it very clear that she is very anti fraud which everyone should be…..where does jealousy come into it?

Are you not anti fraud?

I'm afraid you are very naive if you believe that. She mentions a holiday and going to the gym....what has thar got to do with fraud? She is clearly jealous as she says herself she cannot afford those things.

PIP is not an out of work benefit.

Aware of that, this woman is getting benefits when she is neither physically or mentally unwell, she also has a blue badge…..does that not annoy you in the slightest 🤷‍♂️

Hastentoadd · 15/04/2025 22:55

RTFT

RTFT, yourself.

I've read your ever more ridiculous responses. And I've read everyone else's who all can see the jealousy a mile off.

ClareClareClareClare · 15/04/2025 16:51

Hiding money by putting it in someone else’s name so you can claim benefits you’re not entitled to is very deliberate, pre planned fraud.

This.

The country cannot afford this. Just report her. Then forget her and move on.

tillyandmilly · 15/04/2025 23:02

I agree with you !

Do you know her? No? In that case you have no idea if she is physically or mentally unwell.

We can agree to disagree then as I can see that someone with your mentality is part of the overall problem🤷‍♂️

And even if you do know her you wouldn't necessarily know either. That is why they are called 'hidden disabilities'.

Anothercoat · 15/04/2025 23:05

Hastentoadd · 15/04/2025 22:18

You don’t know that

Do you seriously honestly think that? Do you think that the DWP’s infrastructure has ANY capability of flexing in that way? What a totally bizarre world view! Please please read more widely. Read the governmental structures around measuring social care claims. If you honestly think that an entire behemoth of a government department can account for and divert the microscopic (relative to the total budget) amounts of fraud and miscalculation, you’ve seriously got no idea how any of this works.

The person that made the initial comment knew her well and confirmed that there was absolutely nothing wrong with her, so that is what I’m basing my comment on…..a reliable source

Yes, we will. If being a decent human being makes me part of the problem, I'll be part of the problem. While you can continue to pat yourself on the back for being petty, ignorant, jealous and vindictive. Well done.

A reliable source? Don't make me laugh! Jealousy makes people rather less reliable!

Don’t you think benefit fraud impacts the taxpayer?

Well how is reporting her going to improve your personal tax situation ?
She is allowed to go on foreign holidays and she is allowed to go to the gym.
It does sound as if you don’t really know what’s going on in her life. You are just speculating. So just stay out of it and focus on your own life.

HelloPossible · 15/04/2025 23:30

So it is obvious some here are unaware of things like hidden disabilities, that disability benefits are not dependent on your savings or income but on the expense of being disabled and that all claims have to be backed up by medical evidence to have any chance of being successful.

In truth unless you have medical equipment at home or severe mental health problems like addiction/ suicidal tendencies with medical evidence to support it you are likely to get nothing from the state. Some people don’t know their friends and relatives very well and see going to the gym or a social life as proof these people have nothing wrong with them.
