I've been loving the What Places in the UK Have Weirded You out thread so much I wanted it to continue
My places are:
Newport, Wales. A very angry oppressive vibe. I know there is a lot of economic hardship in South/West Wales but I don't feel that same vibe in Swansea or Cardiff.
University of Reading. Soul less. Just gave me a horrible empty feeling going there to visit in 1999.
Uxbridge, Hillingdon, Ealing. Just a depressive atmosphere in those areas.
Aust, near Severn Beach, in South Gloucestershire. Something foreboding and eerie and bleak there. A heavy feeling.
I felt a huge feeling of sadness and grief one day going from Cotham to the Highbury Vaults pub in Bristol. I think a lot of troubled history there, though, so not surprising but the feeling of intense grief felt huge and came on suddenly . I had been feeling happy before !
Hambrook, in South Gloucestershire. Heavy and oppressive .
Snuff Mills and Oldbury court area of Bristol and around the suspension bridge area in Clifton . I've been told that when the slave ships came in to dock in Bristol they would dump any sick or dead slaves into the river Avon. So I guess it's not surprising.
I'm interested that some mentioned Stoke On Trent. Although it's a deprived area with a lot of social problems I found the people friendly and kind (lived there almost a decade in the Noughties) and didn't feel unsafe there even though parts of it are rough and I was mugged in Hanley once.
