To ask which baby formula you used

Just that. Looking for opinions. Currently using aptamil but baby is crying each afternoon, not sure if its related to digestive issues but gp suggested to change the formula and see…

One of mine had sma comfort and the other had one from the dr on prescription. It’s a nightmare getting feeding right!

HIPP organic was a life saver for our very unsettled baby! I was recommended it by a few friends and it worked a treat. You can also get a comfort version x

Another vote for HiPP organic for a very unsettled colic-y baby, it worked a treat

Ohisitjustme · 15/04/2025 15:37

Nanny goat (?) , goats milk not cows milk so easier for babies that potentially have issues with lactose

SP2024 · 15/04/2025 15:38

I breastfed mainly but from 6 months one bottle a day and we used HIPP which I really liked.

JellyBean123456 · 15/04/2025 15:40

I used SMA for my older two but my youngest was just like yours so I switched him to Hipp Organic and it was an instant change for the better. We also had him on infant gaviscon due to silent reflux so please consider taking him to your GP if a change of formula doesn’t resolve this.

Also OP don’t worry about buying what’s in your corner shop. A lot of people say this but unless you’re always running low with one tin you won’t need to worry about that! In this day and age we can get supermarket and Amazon deliveries to our door. I used to buy Hipp Organic in boxes of 4 from Amazon, worked out cheaper and we never ran out.

Best of luck with getting him more settled x

GingerLiberalFeminist · 15/04/2025 15:44

DD had silent reflux and sicked up normal formula so we got aptamil thickened formula, then had additional omeprazole for the first year. Maybe speak to doc?

Devilsmommy · 15/04/2025 15:46

SMA Soya due to CMPA

None at all.

Helpful to women who can't breastfeed 🙄

allfurcoatnoknickers · 15/04/2025 15:57

Fussy DD would only go for Kendamil. Wasted a fortune trying other after breastfeeding was a disaster and she fell off the weight chat.

Turns out she just didn't like consuming anything, but would go with enough Kendamil not to starve herself to death.

Emma543 · 14/04/2025 19:54

Had to change from Kendamil to cow and gate.
best advice I had was whatever is the most readily available for you e.g. sold at your corner shop etc!

Agree with this advice! We used Kendamil - partly as it was sold in the nearest shop.

AnxietyLevelMax · 15/04/2025 21:04

Half a day on cow and gate so far so cannot really say it isn’t working for sure but 3 hrs of some crying and being restless…long night ahead..again😭

We started on Kendamil but it didn’t suit my little boy. He did really well on Hipp Organic.

DanceMumTaxi · 15/04/2025 21:09

Both had Cow&Gate. Ds had reflux and had baby gaviscon and infacol. Dd was absolutely fine. The only difference was I used Tommee Tippee bottles with ds whereas I used Dr Brown’s with dd which were much better.

IrritatedEarthling · 15/04/2025 21:10

I chose kendamil organic goat milk for DC2. This was to assuage the guilt of not being able to breastfeed, so yes it was a couple of pounds more expensive than the Hipp organic I gave to DC1.

I liked the fact that it
-doesn't contain fish oil
-is the only baby formula made in Britain.

(The Royal babies had it too according to google but I didn't know that at the time)

Maybe try a goat milk, supposed to be a bit gentler?

Or some women who pump a lot can donate frozen breast milk. I was given some [for my DC!!] and I was very grateful.

It could be that your baby is intolerant to something be it CMPA, lactose, soya. I'd suggest doing a lot of research then go back to the GP.

My eldest two had aptimal, then I did kendamil for my youngest however seemed very uncomfortable. Changed to aptimal and was fine.

Mushroom2023 · 15/04/2025 21:16

Not sure if it's been suggested, but has your baby been checked for cow's milk allergy?

Screaming, really stinky nappies and a greenish tinge in poo are typical symptoms as we are severe reflux.

Mummyboy1 · 15/04/2025 21:17

Cow and gate, she's been fine on it.

rejectedprincess · 15/04/2025 21:18

Switching to Hipp Organic was the cure for my colicky baby

HR01 · 15/04/2025 21:39

We started on Aptamil but had the exact same issues that your baby had at exactly the same age from about 6-8 weeks and we tried aptamil comfort but still didn't work, in the end we moved to kendamil and haven't looked back and he is 10months old now!

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 15/04/2025 21:46

I did exclusively breastfeed at that age, and he was fine during the day, but would build up horrible gas at night that made him scream in pain until he managed to poo.

His poo was also bright green and bubbly.

Cutting out dairy did the trick, and later using Aptamil Pepti to combi feed.

Unfortunately he's still intolerant, but he's on the dairy ladder now.

Whereland · 15/04/2025 21:48

I used nannycare goat milk

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 15/04/2025 21:49

I have a pet theory that most issues described as "normal for a newborn" are digestive/dietary, and that dismissing them is a cop out!

If babies howled that much in the wild, they'd attract wolves or lions or bears. Or we'd yeet them into a pond.

Growing up on a farm, I've never yet encountered an animal whose baby screams endlessly post-birth. Mum's diet or the wrong formula might make a huge difference, but so many people just think that's how babies are.

AnxietyLevelMax · 15/04/2025 22:13

@Mushroom2023 no he hasn’t been tested but gp dismissed it and suggested trial and error with different formulas.
