Just that. Looking for opinions. Currently using aptamil but baby is crying each afternoon, not sure if its related to digestive issues but gp suggested to change the formula and see…

DS1 (now 16) Farley's and Hipp Organjc

DS2 (now 13) Cow & Gate

LondonFox · 14/04/2025 20:59

Aptamil.
My DD slept in a sling and it really helped bcs she was not too tired in the afternoon and the position itself kept her milk down (she had a bit of a reflux).
It was very easy to rock her to nap that way with a brisk walk.
I had Nuby sling.

Londonrach1 · 14/04/2025 21:03

Aptamil. Talk to the hv if worried. Congratulations x

None at all.

That's very helpful for OP. Her baby would starve without formula. 🙄

How do you think your comment helps ?

SouthLondonMum22 · 14/04/2025 21:07

Kendamil for all 3 of mine. Used their subscription so they got delivered, so useful.

IveGotAnUnusuallyLargePelvisISwear · 14/04/2025 21:10

Cow and Gate. I can’t remember why I chose that one. My eldest had to go on C&G comfort due to chronic constipation from birth.

Sage234 · 15/04/2025 10:11

Started on kendamil but switched to aptamil pretty quickly when I realised there was a shortage of the former. I agree with PP who recommend a formula that is easy to find in your local area.

Also, sorry to hear you’re struggling with colicky symptoms. Definitely worth keeping an eye on in the event of CMPA but it also sounds within the realm of typical newborn challenges and could be nothing to do with the formula you’re using. Consult your GP if you’re concerned though and if there are any other symptoms e.g rash. Good luck ❤️

Hipp organic. I found it dissolved best! Aptamil tablets were easier out and about but much more difficult to get the bottles clean.

To be fair my combination fed daughter was never that fussed.

+1 Hipp organic

Because its organic ...
And after that organic cows milk.

AnxietyLevelMax · 15/04/2025 10:15

@QueenOfWeeds he passes gas quite a lot. GP said he might still have some which he cant get out. Not sure about it knowing how much he farts tbh..

@DepressingMumLife234 oh lol..not sure to be happy or depressed if we are half way through it since he is 6 weeks🫣 my first one struggled for months though…but good news to me, it did go away eventually, although i was a wreck😂

@HundredPercentUnsure i have a baby carrier which saved me few times during bed time. GP is not worried since he is gaining weight and has no fever, no blood in 💩, but for 3.5 weeks he poo is like a diarrhoea looking, watery like coming out (a lot!), every day in the beginning, for the last week every other day.

@Londonrach1 thank you! I tried speaking to hv about the poo mentioned above but she said to contact gp..not much helpful. I thought hv has more practical knowledge bout baby issues…

Cow and Gate, sold everywhere, cheap, ready made also sold everywhere. Didn't have any problems at all.

AnxietyLevelMax · 15/04/2025 10:25

Oh well…thank you all. We had 2 hours of hell and he finally passed out now, we are off to tesco soon to try a different one!

My three year old had HIPP organic. My seven year old has Aptimal.

Well done you. (Here’s some more validation you clearly need for breastfeeding.) Let’s hope the breastfeeding has also somehow given your DC empathy and tact as I doubt they’ll inherit any from you. Really unnecessary reply to the OP.

OP, my sister liked Kendamil. They do an organic one too. Bit more expensive. Get them in the smaller bottles first if at all possible.

teksab · 15/04/2025 13:38

We used Aptamil and Cow & Gate (same company apparently?) but used the comfort one as it's easier to digest/sliiightly thicker but not as thick as the reflux stuff so don't get the constipation with it. However, 6 weeks was prime colic time for us- I tried to find causes with number 1 but nothing helped. With number 2 I just rode the storm pacing round the house with noise cancelling headphones 🫠

LuckyMoonstone · 15/04/2025 13:56

Horrible question to ask OP but how does your baby’s poo smell? Obviously not pleasant, but anything distinctive?
They may be struggling to break down the lactose in the milk, try Colief drops in the milk. They made my DD much more comfortable after feeding.
If they don’t make a difference, then there’s no harm done in having tried them.

ConnieSlow · 15/04/2025 14:03

Neocate, reflux baby and suspected cmpa

AnxietyLevelMax · 15/04/2025 14:28

@LuckyMoonstone his poo and gas really smells bad. Dont rememeber my first one having such a smelly 💩

i got cow and gate as they had 600g pack of
formula which is cheaper due to its size, so if it wont work in the next few days i will add the drops as well.

if nothing helps…i will just do what @teksab did…🫣

Why not 🤣. Formula is an amazing product and makes life for new parents so much easier.

OP - my midwife recommended the formula which your local supermarket stocked the most of so that it is easily available for you.

LuckyMoonstone · 15/04/2025 15:14

@AnxietyLevelMax worth giving them a go then IMO! Can use with any formula. Hope you find something that works soon :)

Birch101 · 15/04/2025 15:16

Kendamil

Topseyt123 · 15/04/2025 15:20

I used SMA with all three of mine.

Moonnstars · 15/04/2025 15:30

I used HIPP organic with my second child(first had a milk allergy so we got milk prescribed).

Moonnstars · 15/04/2025 15:31

I used HIPP organic with my second child(first child had a milk allergy so we got milk prescribed and I think I then read something about HIPP being better than other formulas so went with that for second child).

comealongdobbeh · 15/04/2025 15:34

Used Aptamil for both.

DS managed on Aptamil powder but in hindsight it never occurred to me that it might be causing an issue (some tummy aches, vomiting etc).

With DD 8 years later, she was early and we used readymade Aptamil while in hospital. When we came out we switched to the powder but she really struggled on it and MW/HV said to switch back. She spent her first year on readymade. Good god it cost a bomb but she was happy on it.

after I looked into it, it seems Aptamil changedd the formula of the powder and a lot of parents have since complained
