Okay, I already know I AIBU to post here but need the traffic to get an answer quickly, so hands up on that one!

It's my DSs 11th birthday at the end of this month. He absolutely loves hoodies and I'd like to get him a really nice one that would give him some Street cred (I can almost see him flinching in embarrassment when I write that 🤣😂). I have no idea about brands and neither does he really, so we both need a steer.

Please fellow wise mumsnetters, steer me in the right direction 🙏

My 12 year old mostly wears adidas. I’ve got him a few different hoodies from Vinted recently but it’s always the adidas he wears

Snorlaxo · 14/04/2025 14:52

Nike in a colour like black would be the safest bet. It can be the swoosh, logo or Air Jordan style

CalliopePlantain · 14/04/2025 15:10

most of the year 7s wore Nike or Hype on mufti day. we’re in Wales.

My son is scouring Vinted and charity shops for Ed Hardy hoodies and T-shirts but he has a very specific style and doesn’t follow fashion.

This is area dependent. Look at what lads in your area are wearing or go to JD and ask staff there what is popular now where you live. Brands seem to move in waves across the country.

Justaregularmum · 14/04/2025 15:16

Can’t go wrong with Nike, technicals, montriex & monterain.

Hope he enjoys his birthday!

Cloudyvibes · 14/04/2025 15:18

Nike is usually a safe bet. Especially the Nike tech fleeces.

Also Hoodrich, Zavetti Canada, and mercier are popular here.

Pigeonqueen · 14/04/2025 15:51

Nike is the safest bet. In a black or navy. If you want to go for a really good one get one of the Nike tech fleeces- they’re around £100 but you can get them cheaper from sports direct or asos in the sale. They’re so thick they’re almost like a jacket which is good for this time of year and they have zipped pockets which is good for a phone! Ds aged 12 has a few of them and absolutely loves them.

Anything other than Nike is quite hit and miss.. ds hates North Face and doesn’t like Adidas.

ThatMiddleClassFood · 14/04/2025 18:17

It's montirex, monterrain, Berghaus, under armour and some Nike stuff where I live.

BogRollBOGOF · 14/04/2025 18:24

I've just had DS12 in Sports Direct on call/ whatsapping with his friends for their approval. He came out with Nike and Adidas.

It's never been my forte, so it was nice for him to have their opinion that he was getting it "right"

TheChosenTwo · 14/04/2025 18:28

My 13 year old boy has absolutely zero interest in clothes whatsoever unless it’s a football shirt.
We buy him a mix of adidas, Nike, superdry, Tommy hilfiger (it’s always at Costco!), Levi’s, just normal clothes that he can put on and not look like a total scruff! Nothing with big logos or brand slogans etc though because dh and I hate them and as we choose his clothes (because he would literally go out in his pants and a football shirt otherwise) we pick what we like and what we think looks half sensible! When he starts taking an interest he’s welcome to choose what the hell he likes.

itsgettingweird · 14/04/2025 18:29

Does he like brands and want brands?

My ds and his mates wouldn’t be seen dead in a sports brand hoody or North face or anything.

He wears hoody’s - loves them in them but his are all from various swim comps or Next or supermarket.

Depends on what’s acceptable trends if your area! Or his group of mates.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 14/04/2025 18:37

Hoodrich is fairly popular around here. Both hoodies and joggers which for some reason have the logo splashed over the front. I actually thought the joggers were on back to front the first time I saw them.

TheCurious0range · 14/04/2025 09:04

It will be area dependent, the only boys who wear north face around here are wannabe roadmen. What do you see on teenage boys in your local town?

Agree that it’s totally regional. What the DC think is cool here is totally different where my DN live.

PopcornKitten · 14/04/2025 18:44

Round here it’s Fat Willy’s Surf Shack, Nike, Adidas, Under armour . Does he follow any YouTubers? Mine had hoodies from their fave YouTubers.
Non sports shops that are popular here are H&M.

Minesril · 14/04/2025 21:35

My nearly-11 year old’s latest hoody is a Looshkin ‘pig under each arm’ design. I rather like his no-idea-about-labels innocence.

bongogirl · 15/04/2025 09:08

My 12 (almost 13) year old is pretty fashion conscious. He wears CP company, stone island, off white. Represent, but sizing is huge. He loves montirex but they’re a lighter material. He does wear Nike too

animaginativeusername · 16/04/2025 20:45

My 12 year old loves any with his favourite anime and Pokémon characters. He’s also happy with Uniqlo hoodies. He is now also interested in Nike and adidas
