Annoyed I haven’t received the money for sold item

I recently moved to a smaller house and sold a few things in the process. I’ve also given away several items to family and friends, so I’m not being greedy, but the extra cash has definitely come in handy. I posted one item on Facebook, and a close friend of a family member (who lives next door) asked if she could have it for her daughter. A few weeks ago, I happened to be passing by and offered to drop it off, but she wasn’t home, so asked if I could leave it with my family member next door. That was about 3 weeks ago and I still haven’t received the money. I know she has the item because I visited my family
member yesterday and she confirmed that her friend had picked it up a few days later.

I know I’ll have to let the money go now, and fortunately, it’s not a significant sum. However am I wrong to feel frustrated and taken advantage of? As I mentioned, I’ve given away a lot for free, but I really wanted money for this item. I even had several messages on Facebook about it and could have sold it to someone else!

Hey friend, x confirmed you received the item, my PayPal/account details are xxxx or you can just drop off £x at ABC.

Don't be wet, get your money.

How much was it?

VanillaImpulse · 13/04/2025 21:50

Yes just say you need the money or you’ll need the item back

Don't give up! Just messaged her asking for payment

what did your 'family member' say when you said "that's weird, your friend still hasn't transferred me the money for it"? or even "did she leave the money with you when she picked it up?"
surely this 'friend' either pays for it, or it gets returned to you, so it can be sold to someone else?
presumably your family member can back you up & help sort this out?

I don't understand why you've already written off the idea of getting the money you wanted for it
