My local community page on Facebook keeps getting a marriage of women praising 'men' when they've seen them out doing this bare minimum. Basic parenting. This woman has posted (see picture) that 'it's nice to see dads in the park playing with their kids.'

does this not negatively impact women? Why should men get a fluffy shoutout for taking their kids to the park, women don't get a special shout out. The 'giving mums a break for 'rest bite'.. really? Yay for a man doing what he should be doing and supervising his child. Like it's something we've got to be thankful for.

trivial as it may be it riled me up the wrong way. Is the bar really that low for men? AIBU? The poster who posted this is giving me really bad pick me menz apologist vibes.

(Waiting for image to be reviewed.) but for the time being, I what was said in the image was 'just want to give a shoutout to the local dads enjoying the park with their kids, giving the mums a break for 'REST BITE' (😂)

I wouldn't take any notice of someone who uses the term "rest bite" 😂

MsPug · 13/04/2025 14:12

😂

Hoydenish · 13/04/2025 14:12

Rest bite always gives me the sniggers. Go on mums, have a rest and a bite to eat.

But yes, bare minimum by dads = amazing. Doubles standards ahoy.

Coffeeishot · 13/04/2025 14:13

I can't get past rest bite ! I've not experienced this on public groups. but men have been congratulated for doing actual parenting from day dot!

MzHz · 13/04/2025 14:13

Tbf, if I see anyone write “rest bite”, would of/could of, or myself instead of me, I scroll on and think they’re too thick to ever get it.

YANBU tho. It grinds my gears that men get standing ovations for the barest of minimums.

Did you reply to this message and what are other people saying about it?

InterestedDad37 · 13/04/2025 14:14

While I'm all for presenting a positive image of men (there is a lot of negativity), the 'men in park are top fellas' thing is a bit silly.
Anyway, I'm off for a rest. And a bite 😉😀

RawBloomers · 13/04/2025 14:15

I’ve never thought those sorts of posts were women sucking up to men. I’ve always thought they were by women who are trying to encourage other men to step up more.

Coffeeishot · 13/04/2025 14:15

My children are proper adults and I remember 30 odd years ago people usually older women ime saying how great he was for taking "the baby" out in the pram.

Nothing seems to have changed

I can't imagine deadbeat dads thinking 'oh I must now pick up my child and take them to the park as I get a gold star and a sticker and a lovely shoutout from Lesley in Surrey.'

There’s a great Facebook tag group for things like this. It’s called “the bar for men is so low it’s a tavern in Hades”.

It's jarring isn't it.
it's the same as 'how lovely look at that dad taking their child for a bit of lunch together' or 'daddy and daughter dates' (🤢)

slow clap

Why have they took their shoes off to go down the slide and stand in the dirt? ... Mums wouldn't do that 🙄

It is irritating, the "Daddy/daughter" dates are nausasiating and usually just for social media.!

stealthninjamum · 13/04/2025 14:23

Meanwhile the mums are probably trying to cram in a week’s worth of laundry, hoovering and tidying up because she finally has a break and ‘rest bite’.

northernballer · 13/04/2025 14:24

Rest bite has absolutely done me 😂

I

ReesesCupcake · 13/04/2025 14:25

A “rest bite”?! 😂😂😂

What on earth is one of those then?

This could make it to the MN hall of fame, alongside Penis Beaker and Snapped and Farted.

JaneBoulton · 13/04/2025 14:26

Anyone want to join me for a Rest Bite? I've got blankets and apples.

Hoydenish · 13/04/2025 14:28

I have rich tea biscuits.

Coffeeishot · 13/04/2025 14:28

Poor Lesley from Surrey was just trying to be nice!
