My local community page on Facebook keeps getting a marriage of women praising 'men' when they've seen them out doing this bare minimum. Basic parenting. This woman has posted (see picture) that 'it's nice to see dads in the park playing with their kids.'

does this not negatively impact women? Why should men get a fluffy shoutout for taking their kids to the park, women don't get a special shout out. The 'giving mums a break for 'rest bite'.. really? Yay for a man doing what he should be doing and supervising his child. Like it's something we've got to be thankful for.

trivial as it may be it riled me up the wrong way. Is the bar really that low for men? AIBU? The poster who posted this is giving me really bad pick me menz apologist vibes.

The bar is incredibly low for men.

My DH was widowed when I met him and DS1 was young. He actually found himself offended several times when people praised him for things that were standard parenting. The number of people that assumed he'd be going back to his old job - working overnights - shortly after we got together was really quite staggering. The assumption of me minding his DS was an eye opener.

He gets a bit of grief from his mates (usually lighthearted) as he laughs at them and pulls them up if they come out with dickish things like saying they're 'babysitting' their own children and the likes.

I have rich tea biscuits.

Fabulous! I'll supply some comfy bean bags too 🤣

Why have they took their shoes off to go down the slide and stand in the dirt? ... Mums wouldn't do that 🙄

men have to always do the most to make a statement don't they.

no one wants to stare at the menz hairy toes.

I'm not on Fb, but I browse my local Next Door site. Despite the use of Rest Bite, 😂 the post above is fantastic compared to the posts on ND. Most of the posters there seem semi - illiterate. It is almost impossible to make sense of some of the posts as they are littered with spending mistakes. Nor do they seem to understand that grammar and punctuation is also required. It makes me wonder why these people didn't learn in school/at home as children.

Tbf, if I see anyone write “rest bite”, would of/could of, or myself instead of me, I scroll on and think they’re too thick to ever get it.

YANBU tho. It grinds my gears that men get standing ovations for the barest of minimums.

This really doesn't make you sound very intelligent if 'too thick' is the only possible reason you can think of, does it?

And even if they are 'thick' as you delightfully put it, is that always their fault?

Do you think they actively choose to be less intelligent than others?

I agree with you OP regarding the ridiculous FB post.

But lets not be pricks and take the piss out of her illiteracy.

The pool I swim at has mixed changing areas, all cubicles. I enjoy watching the dads struggling with the kids. The ratio for the ones who are doing a good job is about 1 in a 100.
My favourite interaction was a female primary school teacher who shouted at the boys near me to hurry up. When they didn't respond she followed up with " Answer me when I speak!" I was impressed, I bet her school has good results. And good manners.

CautiousLurker01 · 13/04/2025 14:45

Tbh I think you are seeing what you want to see. There are a load of other posts on that page and associated Farnham FB pages today about lost dogs, a rescued deer, lack of disabled access in the local shops and one about two male cyclists being absolute arses on a no-cycling route. The one praising dads for getting involved (actually many, many local dads do seem to get involved) kind of balances out the one about blokes on bikes.

From a feminist perspective, I’d let this one go.

Maitri108 · 13/04/2025 14:47

Is it meant to be a joke? There are no men in the photo.

I made a spending mistake yesterday - bought salted peanuts instead of plain.

dapsnotplimsolls · 13/04/2025 14:49

What's a 'marriage of women'? Is that the collective term? 😁

LesleyfromSurrey · 13/04/2025 14:49

Thanks @Coffeeishot remember #bekind huns especially to all the men going the extra mile out there in a park near you.

Crunchymum · 13/04/2025 14:10

I wouldn't take any notice of someone who uses the term "rest bite" 😂

Exactly. Illiterate x

It is irritating, the "Daddy/daughter" dates are nausasiating and usually just for social media.!

Creepy…

Dweetfidilove · 13/04/2025 14:53

A marriage of women?

A rest bite?

Seriously though, decent men tend to get offended by this foolishness.

No too far to stretch your mind though is it?

Or do you think all children are born into loving, responsible families without drug addiction, alcoholism, mental health issues to name just a few reasons why they were completely let down and unsupported by adults?

YANBU, my DH usually does the Saturday morning hobby as I do pretty much everything else all week. This week he was away and I did it. The amount of comments I got asking where he was and wasn’t I “lucky” to usually get Saturday mornings to myself was unreal. All from other mothers I may add.

You can't imagine men posting about it being wonderful to see women enjoying time with their kids in the park to give dads rest bite can you!

Bringmeahigherlove · 13/04/2025 14:57

Yep it’s pathetic.
