Can I dye faded blue jeans darker blue?

Have you ever done this?

I have wide leg COS jeans that I love. They were a lovely mid blue when I bought them but they've faded a lot & i don't like the paler colour as much.

I was considering dyeing them a darker denim colour but I'm not sure you can even do that.

Will I ruin them?

I did, with Dylan wash in dye. Also did it with navy trousers.it worked well.

I’ve done it, it’s fine as long as they are 100% cotton denim. Any mixed fabrics won’t dye as well, if they are stretchy jeans for example. The dylon machine dye is brilliant 🤩

Yes, but they won't look exactly like darker denim because the dye will make the warp and weft of the fabric the same colour, whereas denim usually has two shades woven in. If that makes sense. So they'll come out a completely solid shade instead of having the characteristic denim fabric look.

They can, and I have, but the blue is never quite right (thanks to PP above who’s explained why, it’s always annoyed me, but this makes sense).

I now dye paler/faded ones black instead and that looks great. The Dylon in-machine dye is brilliant and doesn’t stain the machine (you have to run an empty wash after, and then it’s perfect).
