To ask when you got your first grey hair

so I’m 26 and I’ve got a few clusters of grey hairs growing from around my hairline and behind my ears. Theres 3 or 4 that are very visible when I tie my hair up.
I know it’s normal to get grey hairs but I didn’t think I’d get so many so young? My parents didn’t go grey in their 20s. I’m not going to colour them as I think it’d be easier to embrace them but just wondering when you first started going grey?

Late 30’s - I get four or five randomly.

I was in a coma when I was 24 and since then I grew a grey streak in just one patch on my head (imagine Anna from frozen vibes). Either a coincidence that it happened at the same time as the coma, or I prefer to think of it like something out of a movie haha

I had a teacher at school, probably in his early 30s, who developed a white streak when he had a serious accident and spent weeks in a coma when he was a teenager. His hair was naturally black so the white streak was very obvious.

I still don’t have any, and I’m in my 40s. I dye my hair blonde, but get mousy brown roots

Both my mum and sister were fully grey at 30 or so, but their hair is naturally black, so maybe that has something to do with it

lunaemma · 10/04/2025 14:14

42 and none. I’m a redhead so not sure if that makes a difference?

TheBlueRobin · 10/04/2025 14:18

I first noticed a couple around my temples when I was 29. I blame a house move, my Mum passing away, stressful job changes and a broken wrist within a three month period!

PersonalBest · 10/04/2025 14:40

If I recall correctly I was 19ish. Am 60 now, silver, gets lots of compliments. Never died it, just let it do it's own thing.

Iloveburgerswaymorethanishould · 10/04/2025 14:57

I’m 42 and a red head… I cannot wait to go grey (well we go white not grey). I check almost daily!! Nothing nada!! I do however have one white hair in one of my eyebrows. Even when I have them tinted this one stays white. My lashes and eyebrows are clear…. No pigment at all. Also how lovely you are embracing it!! I love grey/white hair!!

DefyingGravidy · 10/04/2025 15:00

I was 26 when I noticed my first grey hair. But I didn’t have enough to start dying my hair until I was late 40s. I have fair hair though so it’s not as obvious as if I was dark.

C0medianHeckle · 10/04/2025 15:00

20s

PeachesPeachesPeachesPeachesPeaches · 10/04/2025 15:05

I was in my early twenties. My mum is late 50s and still no greys.

Hammy19 · 10/04/2025 15:08

14, totally white by my late 30s

Found my first grey hair at 16, my roots were probably mostly grey by my late 20s. I’m 33 now and if I let my hair grow out it would be fully grey

muddyford · 10/04/2025 17:31
  1. Found them round my temples.
KellySeveride · 10/04/2025 17:32

In my teens. Started getting more grey hair in my early 30’s. Now 39 and have a good chunk of greys but my hair is so thick that they’re still not that visible as they’re underneath.

gannett · 10/04/2025 17:39

I don't have any yet but I like the approach of a friend of mine who started dyeing her hair grey at 35 for fashion reasons... and also so she never has to actually know.

BlueWalker · 10/04/2025 17:41

Year 7, so around 11 years old. It was noticeable (the rest was very dark) enough a few years later that I started dying my greys around the age of 20. It grows fast; I would have visible regrowth within a fortnight so I just stopped dying it in my 40's and now it's 50/50 - dark hair underneath and totally silver hair on top. If I wear my hair half up/half down it's two different colours. Which I kind of love.

Roselilly36 · 10/04/2025 17:41

50

Toddlerteaplease · 10/04/2025 17:42

43 only one though.

LunchBoxPolice · 10/04/2025 17:57

30, during my second pregnancy. I was very hormonal and called my husband to cry about it 😆 Got lots more now and don’t really care

BogRollBOGOF · 10/04/2025 18:01

Summer 2020.
Mid-40s now and more have appeared, but they're not obvious yet. I think it will be going for a streak approach as there is a cluster together.

I'm not at the point of trying to work out whether to be arsed with dying it yet.

BurgundyZero · 10/04/2025 10:18

25
40s now and still mostly dark hair but a bit more noticeable silver now. I find it pretty

Not silver dahling..it's platinum.🧑‍🦳
I'm near 60 embrace the platinum 😄

NeedaplanNeedtogo · 10/04/2025 18:03

I had a few grey hairs all my life and I used to pluck them out but they became more noticeable around 24 years old and too many to pluck out.

Genevieva · 10/04/2025 18:05

45, but both my parents are still more colour than grey in their 70s. I’ve got about 3 that I can find, but I’m blonde (don’t dye my hair) so they don’t really notice.

MyNameIsAlexDrake · 10/04/2025 18:05

About 19yr old, I’m naturally very dark. Dyed my hair every 3 weeks until around 40yo then I transitioned to blonde. I’m now fully white at 50yo.
