To ask when you got your first grey hair

so I’m 26 and I’ve got a few clusters of grey hairs growing from around my hairline and behind my ears. Theres 3 or 4 that are very visible when I tie my hair up.
I know it’s normal to get grey hairs but I didn’t think I’d get so many so young? My parents didn’t go grey in their 20s. I’m not going to colour them as I think it’d be easier to embrace them but just wondering when you first started going grey?

This I’m nearly 50 and have just found a couple

Dotjones · 10/04/2025 11:39

Late teens, can't remember exactly.

JasonTindallsTan · 10/04/2025 11:39

About 17/18. Fully white by early 30’s.

randomchap · 10/04/2025 11:42

Early 30s, now almost fully grey. I like to think of myself as a silver fox, but I know I'm in denial.

Becs258 · 10/04/2025 11:42

18, my Mum was 14. Annoys me greatly that my husband is 41 and has no obvious ones.

RubyOrca · 10/04/2025 11:42

I think around 30 (little before? Maybe little after?).

Gundogday · 10/04/2025 11:45

40s? Mid 50s now and only recently gone seriously grey (underneath the hair dye!).

mediummumma · 10/04/2025 11:47

I had a grey eyelash come through when I was 20 but I didn’t need to dye my hair to cover grey until I was 39.

Tarkan · 10/04/2025 11:48

I was around 20 or 21 when my friend at uni pulled a full length grey hair from my head.

A friend at school was going proper salt and pepper when he was only 16.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 10/04/2025 11:48

About 45. I'm 53 now and still only have a few. My mum went grey pretty late, but she had much darker hair than me, so the early ones were more visible.

JHound · 10/04/2025 11:48

Fully grey in late 30s.

LindorDoubleChoc · 10/04/2025 11:50

31, just before my wedding day. I'm now 62 and still only about 10% grey.

Middleofnowhere8 · 10/04/2025 11:50

I have noticed a few on the sides by my ears and I’m 30. Hoping that is my lot for now!

Shodan · 10/04/2025 11:51

I think around 53? I'm 56 now and only have a few around my hairline. DP, on the other hand, has been going grey since his 30s.

Mistyglade · 10/04/2025 11:52

28, big fat white one on the left side of my head about 3 inches long found whilst backpacking in Laos! 47 now and started doing proper hairdressers tint jobs last year after years of covering strands up with box dyes or root spray.

longtompot · 10/04/2025 11:54

I was 15 when I found my first grey. I am 53 now and still not going fully grey under the dye, but when I do, then I'll stop dying my hair

TrinityWaves · 10/04/2025 11:54

I got one at 23 which was the only one for 5 years.
After 30 slowly started getting more and more, I think I now have probably 40-50 across my head.

CarpetSlipper · 10/04/2025 11:54

Late 20s but only the odd 1 or 2 until mid 30s. Not very many greys in late 30s but definitely becoming more numerous.

I'm 52 and haven't got any but I'm expecting them to appear soon.

My DH was the same as yours.

My DB is younger and has some grey.

RealQuail · 10/04/2025 12:21

17

LavenderBlue19 · 10/04/2025 12:23

First grey at 17, visible grey roots by early 30s. Now 80% grey at 43. It's very annoying, I have dark brown hair and really don't suit blonde so I'm just keeping dying (lighter) until I feel ready to go fully grey.

Londontown12 · 10/04/2025 12:24

I think I’ve only just noticed cus I’m getting long strands of them but I’m 49 !
I don’t have roots of grey just some straggly ones like single ones ! My natural hair still the same when the roots are growing not coloured hair for nearly a year so surprised !
I don’t know why some people get loads and some hardly any it’s so strange ! Call them your sparkles keep sparkling ✨

ItGhoul · 10/04/2025 13:28

I was 40 but I didn’t really get any more than two or three until I was about 48. I still have very few though.

By contrast, my DP’s hair was already entirely grey when I met him (it’s one of the things I fancied about him; I love a silver fox) and he was 34 at the time. Apparently he was pretty much grey by 30.

I think it’s genetic, as DP’s dad also went completely grey in his early 30s, whereas my dad still isn’t completely grey even now, and he’s 83.

Caroparo52 · 10/04/2025 13:30

Mid 20's

autisticbookworm · 10/04/2025 13:31

I’m 46 nothing yet!
