the water company might actually believe it is their problem and look into it rather than say it is a bit late to do so tonight and I might need to call someone out myself . Fortunately someone round the corner called them while I was on the phone protesting so it may at least be a general problem they have to resolve.

A bit late to deal with it?? What time do they finish?

IME when I've phoned the water people (twice about a leak in the same place, about a year apart) I've noticed that they seem really strikingly inefficient in the way they handle things.

ie. -I've phoned to report the leak, given them details on where it is, my address and phone no. etc

-10mins later a different dept phone me back to ask where the leak is, even though I gave exact details on the previous call

-within 24hrs or so a team come out to scratch their arses and spray big arrows on the ground to show where the water is leaking (in other words where the water is in a big bubbling pool so you don't need a spray painted arrow as its there for all to see )

-eventually a team come out to fix it

I know ridiculous isn't it. Anyway they have just phoned back to apologise for the lack of supply - something to do with a leak several miles away apparently which , if true, would mean it should be affecting several thousand homes . They say supply should be back on within the hour ....

Have you got some bottled water in just in case? Imagine a morning with no tea or coffee

LIZS · 15/05/2008 16:56

I know, horrible thought and what about the loos . dh keeps a big bottle filled from the tap in the fridge so could use that if needs be. Was going to pop into work to fill up some more but they'll be similarly affected. I did get a dribble earlier so may top the kettle up from that !

if you've got a water butt you can use buckets of water from that to flush the loo.
As for drinking - well perhaps you'll have to make do with beer?

LIZS · 15/05/2008 17:06

water butt is stagnant, myabe I'll get ds to wee before he leaves school tonight! Beer sounds good Of course dh is away tonight , typical !

Its probably a blessing in disguise that your DH is away -they tend to leave ...er how shall I put this politely...nasties in the toilet that won't easily flush away at the best of times .

(or is that just mine?)

We've had enough for me to stockpile jugs and kettle but it is still weak and intermittent

Low and behold officially we have suffered from low water pressure since yesterday morning although seemed back to normal again this morning. You'd have thought they might have known by the time I called ...
