This isn't a AIBU, but what do you do in your spare time?

I've recently split up from my partner of six year's. And now feel a bit lost on what to do with my free time. I've started back at the gym, but what else do people do? I find myself a bit bored and twiddling my thumbs.

I volunteer, clean my house and read.

goodnightssleepbenice · 08/04/2025 07:33

Agix · 08/04/2025 07:35

I usually just do the same things as I do in a relationship when I'm single. Obviously without the speaking to partner, going to places with them stuff, etc. I just do it alone.

MesmerisingMuon · 08/04/2025 07:36

I play drums (I have lessons), go to the gym, play piano, crochet, read, learn new stuff, duolingo, help out with a kids sports class.

I am NEVER bored and rarely even have the TV on.

Seeline · 08/04/2025 07:38

Sing in a choir
Line dancing - brilliant as no partner required!

Adult colouring books
Read
Watch TV

Art class, read, play phone games, go for walks, meet with friends, pub quiz, charity shop rummages, telly.

Read, gym and walk the dog. I am also studying for a professional qualification but you could do any kind of course you are interested in.

Shirtless · 08/04/2025 07:43

Surely you do the same things as you did when you were in a relationship? I mean, you can’t have spent literally all your leisure time with your partner?

jambunny · 08/04/2025 07:45

Volunteering made me lots of new friends. Also meet up/local walking clubs. Park run if that’s your thing.
Volunteering could include….
food bank
community cafe
scouts/guides
litter picking groups
canal trust
guide dogs fundraising
hospital visiting/driver

Walk the dog, meet up with friends, play with the cats, read, watch TV, do some very amateur photography, try and capture the Northern Lights, mess about online, play mobile games - all sorts, really.

I’m off out for the day on Saturday - visiting a friend, getting a piercing, taking the dog for a walk and probably getting lunch and wandering round the shops.

Eldermilleniallyogii · 08/04/2025 07:53

I rarely have much free time! I work 8am-6pm and often have to cover weekends (healthcare) so typically my evenings and days off involve walking the dog, grocery shopping and housework. I try to squeeze in a few visits to elderly DM and will often have a nice lunch to catch up with adult DD on one of my days off. C’est la vie..!

Photography most days. Play an instrument. Read a lot.

IGetWeak · 08/04/2025 08:13

Get a decent camera and Photoshop. You can get out to nice places to take pictures, and photo editing is something you can do while listening to music or a podcast or whatever.

I do yoga, sing in a choir, do improv, read, and I love going for a rummage in charity shops then taking myself to a cafe for tea and cake. I’m also in a pub quiz team.
