I booked a cruise a few weeks ago upon booking I was asked if there was any special assistance required and I advised my 5yr old had allergies. They accepted the booking but said i would need to fill a special assistance form in so the ship could accommodate the allergies.

i did this and now 4 weeks later they are saying they can’t accommodate him and need to cancel the cabin he is in with dad but are refusing to cancel my cabin with myself and other 2 children in. They seem to think we should still travel or take a loss of over £2000 and cancel it ourselves. We have been trying to sort this shambles out for weeks and are due to sail in 2 weeks.

I have spoken to various managers and departments at both Iglu and MSC and getting no where each is blaming the other. So if any of you are on X (the new twitter) please could you share my post and maybe give me a follow?!

I joined yesterday in the hope of getting a resolutions 😬

Are they two separate bookings, or all in one booking?

sweetpickle2 · 07/04/2025 09:59

That does seem ridiculous of them, but for now I would focus on what is legal here to try and get the result you want.

You say you booked a few weeks ago, when exactly? It looks like they need the info no later than 30 days prior to sailing to be able to accommodate. Did you give them this?- edit: sorry just seen you did this 4 weeks ago

Are your DS' allergies particularly unusual or outside the list of the allergies they have pre-listed on their form?

Are the rooms under one booking or two?

What does your travel insurance say?

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/04/2025 10:03

Ask MNHQ to move this to Legal?

MrsT2510 · 07/04/2025 10:22

One booking with Iglu but MSC apparently give each cabin its own booking number but link them together.

Special Assistance form was filled in before the 30 days.

Some of his allergies fall within the 14 major some don’t. I have managed to travel many times throughout the UK and USA with them and have no issues accommodating. Apparently it’s down the face it’s an enclosed space of 6000 people.

Can you go with your other kids and dad + son have a different holiday together?

StumbleInTheDebris · 07/04/2025 10:26

You'd be better removing this thread and reposting with a more specific title OP. Hope you get it sorted

Try the Guardian consumer champions?

Not on X but how awful. Agree with contacting the consumer champions of various newspapers. Theres nothing obvious on their site that it could be cancelled so thats an interest to others considering travelling particularly around holiday times. I reckon you would have luck getting it picked up. Is your requirement particularly difficult ie none of those foods can be aboard at all as its an airborne allergy or just he needs uncontaminated food and allergy options?
