To think Lucy Connolly has been made an example of?

Have any of you read this article about Lucy Connolly who tweeted inflammatory comments following the Southport murders? I have to admit that at the time I was fully supportive of having her locked up, with the key thrown away. But reading this article made me view it all a little differently. Surely she has done her time?

The people setting fire to the building are the criminals.

Hitler wasn't the one switching on the gas chambers, but confident people lay blame at his door for the deaths of millions.

People like this woman (who is intelligent enough to know better I'm sure) stir up the hatred that causes people who aren't intelligent enough to know better, to do their dirty work.

There is no statutory minimum sentence for rape. However sentencing guidelines suggest a starting point of four years imprisonment.

https://www.jdspicer.co.uk/site/blog/crime-fraud/how-long-is-a-rape-sentence-in-the-uk

The link I gave is to the sentencing guidelines Clav.

It says quite clearly: Offence range: 4 – 19 years’ custody.

It does not say that is the average, despite what that random solicitor's website says.

What quota is this? Everything I've read about the conviction rate is that the CPS wants to increase it, not lower it or stick to a quota.

The low conviction rate is appalling enough without this quota. Where did you hear of it?

The quota does raise the conviction rate. If you take 10 men to court and convict 1 then you have a 10% conviction rate. If you take only 1 man to court and convict him then your conviction rate is 100% but you've only convicted the same amount. So they NFA most cases and take the bare minimum to court to ensure they can raise the conviction rate. It has been well documented and the CPS admitted it.

Hitler was the leader of a whole country. This woman was in charge of nothing. She sent out a highly offensive message. She didn’t send out orders down a chain of command.

Obviously its not a direct comparison. Someone said 'the ones that commit the acts are the criminals'. My point is, not always.

A different random solicitor's website;

In the UK, there is no statutory minimum sentence for rape. Generally, sentencing for rape convictions starts from 4 years imprisonment.

Ah, you must be on the prom footwear and North Face puffer threads? Or the barman had no clue what a lemon and lime is?
Ai-je raison?

Silly young person.. How quaint.

They are also the criminals. Not just them but lack of intelligence isn't an excuse for arson. Even a 6 year old knows you don't set fire to buildings with people inside them. I don't buy the low IQ or being easily led bullshit. That said I am glad this woman for the sentence she did . Evil cow.

ArtTheClown · 12/04/2025 08:10

She should have sexually assaulted an elderly dementia sufferer instead - apparently that warrants zero jail time.

ThePunnyPeachDuck · 12/04/2025 08:42

All of those mentioning the tweet which is always misquoted

how do you feel about the part that says “while you’re at it take the treacherous Government and Politicians with them”

it never gets a mention , why is that ?

Stripeyanddotty · 12/04/2025 09:06

@ThePunnyPeachDuck
Did she actually say that?

Yes. That’s the full quote of the tweet.

“Mass deportation now, set fire to all the fucking hotels full of the
bastards for all I care, while you’re at it take the treacherous government
and politicians with them. I feel physically sick knowing what these
families will now have to endure. If that makes me racist so be it”

AzurePanda · 12/04/2025 09:14

She deleted the tweet within 4 hours and deleted her twitter account. There is absolutely no evidence that any of the violence was a direct result of her vile tweet. She had lost a child thanks to appalling NHS incompetence and was diagnosed with PTSD. I’m not surprised the murder of 3 children temporarily tipped her over the edge.

Her message was beyond horrific but I think either a suspended sentence or community service would have been more appropriate given the circumstances.

ArtTheClown · 12/04/2025 09:30

If the court could have proved that her tweet did indeed cause incitement, then that's one thing.. But she seems to have been jailed on the basis that it could have, not that it did.
She is genuinely now being treated more harshly than a sex offender. They're well on their way to making a political prisoner of her.

And no I don't agree with what she posted, but the whole using the law to make an example of somebody thing is sinister.

There’s an appeal pending so we’ll see if the original charge will still be standing.

Also , there was nothing to prove as she pled guilty to the charge .

ArtTheClown · 12/04/2025 09:48

Also , there was nothing to prove as she pled guilty to the charge .

A lot of the people charged for social media posts around that time seem to have been advised to plead guilty, yes. I imagine the long custodial sentences despite the guilty pleas came as a huge shock.

Definitely , especially as you can see it on this thread, “it was just a tweet” , “surely a community order would’ve been better” etc. I can see a lot of posters on here being caught out by a similar assumption if they’d have done something similar.

It would have been silly to plead not guilty considering the evidence.

Close enough.

Lucy deleted the tweet then either deleted her account then reinstated it to issue an apology or issued an apology before deleting it .

What people also do not know is that during the previous December and January the family were being targeted by Tommy Robinson supporters as they were opposing them
