Posting here for traffic really…

DD is 11. Been feeling unwell since last Saturday (29th March) constant nausea but hasn’t been sick, lethargic, loss of appetite, tummy ache, has spiked an odd temperature once or twice over the week but nothing too awful, achy at times, she is just feeling very unwell in herself.

Managed half a day in school this week. Couldn’t attend the theatre show we had tickets for as she felt too ill - where as normally she would rally. Had to cancel sleepover with friends etc. Has just been in bed.

Took her to GP on Friday and they were great, checked her fully over and couldn’t find a reason for any of it, she has lost a little weight over the past few months but she isn’t a big eater and we have been working on this, is a grazer rather a big meal person (until she started to feel ill) I think now she is the same weight as in December but is now 3 to 4 cm taller.

GP sent her for a blood test on Friday and it all came back fine.

BUT… she is feeling utterly awful again. Can’t eat, feels sweaty but no temp. She seemed a bit brighter earlier but is now back saying it’s bad again. Is sleeping in with me because she feels so unwell and constantly clutching a sick bowl.

I just don’t know what to do! Calpol seems to take the edge off but it still comes in waves of her feeling awful. Any ideas??

Contact her GP tomorrow again, something is obviously not right .

alexdgr8 · 06/04/2025 21:22

I'd call 111 for advice

All the best

Littledancer13 · 06/04/2025 21:23

I think you’re right, I just don’t want to be a nightmare parent but equally it’s my child and I need to get her better. Hopefully they will see her again.

Did they examine her tummy?

Sooverthemill · 06/04/2025 21:30

Take her to GP tomorrow and ask for a second opinion ie paediatrician

Bunnybear42 · 06/04/2025 21:32

Oh Your poor dd! Sounds awful. Did your doctors ask her for a wee sample ? Could it be urine or kidney infection ? If not ask for this and maybe a stool sample could she have gastroenteritis or food poisoning perhaps ? Such a worry when our kids are ill. Wishing her a speedy recovery x

Moier · 06/04/2025 21:33

Urine and poo test is needed.
Could be UTI or bowel infection

softlyfallsthesnow · 06/04/2025 21:33

Appendix? Took several visits, including A&E sending him home, for DS before it became obvious.Lots of vague abdominal symptoms and unwellness for a while before. Just a thought.

mindutopia · 06/04/2025 21:36

It doesn’t sound to me like the sort of thing I’d want to sit through a night in A&E for, which is your only option at this late hour. It sounds like you saw the GP on Friday and nothing has gotten worse since then. With bloods being normal, I’d make another GP appointment unless something dramatically changes.

TokyoSushi · 06/04/2025 21:36

I’ve just had something that sounds very similar, absolutely awful and the worst I’ve felt in years, lasted about 10 days and I’m only just starting to feel better today. I’d be more worried if it was DD though.

Hopefully she’s much better very soon.

Littledancer13 · 06/04/2025 21:38

Thanks everyone,
Urine was clear. They examined her tummy and didn’t seem to find anything. She said it didn’t particularly hurt when the pressed down.

I’m going to call them in the morning, I think because the blood tests were fine I had relaxed and thought it was nothing major but she just isn’t getting better.

Tokyo that is interesting, hopefully she will start to improve soon. It’s horrible whatever it is!

I’ve just had something similar OP. Absolutely exhausted (doing school run then going back to bed until pick up) but nothing particular I could say was wrong. I also had a temperature for around 5 days, was burning up and reading around 39.1. Paracetamol didn’t touch it. Slowly I’ve been feeling better but still really tired most of the time. Hope your DD feels better soon as it’s really horrible if it’s the same as I had

NippyChippy14 · 06/04/2025 23:25

I thought appendix too, only because they were my exact same symptoms.

Angrymum22 · 06/04/2025 23:32

Has she started her periods yet? Could it be early symptoms. Hormones increasing can cause a multitude of symptoms.
There does appear to be a virus going round which includes nausea and spiking temp. DS was laid up with it a couple of weeks ago at uni. Although any symptoms he gets I usually put down to uni life, he has had a lot of viral infections since staring last September. It’s a bit like when they first start school.

Welshwhales · 07/04/2025 05:21

I second the appendix concern.

Memorable · 07/04/2025 06:17

You must take her back to the GP of course for further tests but just to add another suggestion - Mesenteric adenitis.

This reminded me of my dd some years ago and we spent an awful night in A&E with similar symptoms. It was all so vague but she was definitely pretty unwell. Everyone started off assuming appendicitis, but it was actually diagnosed eventually as Mesenteric adenitis. I’d never heard of it but it went away on its own. There are other posts on mumsnet about it for more info.

Hope she’s feeling better soon op x

bakebeans · 07/04/2025 06:56

Just another thought but she’s not anxious about anything is she? My daughter has presented like this when she was little and was going through a tough time at school

Littledancer13 · 07/04/2025 08:24

Thanks everyone, a few things to explore and ask the doctor.

I did question appendicitis but it seems today the pain has gone…

She has woken up feeling slightly better and is going to try some toast 🤞🤞

It’s reassuring to here that people have had similar and it’s just taken a while to go - hope everyone is feeling better!

My dd had stomach pain/sickness on and off from about 14 with temp/ lethargy. Had a diagnosis of grumbling appendix which was eventually removed at 22. However when they opened her up her appendix wasn’t inflamed but they did spot a large cyst on her ovary which they suspect was actually causing the pain.
