I have all the symptoms of diabetes

Yet blood test says no.

I don’t get it

I’m thirsty all the time
constantly need a wee (often within 20 mins of just going)
I’m constantly tired
electric shock feelings in my feet
blurred vision … which took me to opticians today - my sight is apparently fine but they did find narrow angles or something which is a symptom of diabetes or high blood pressure. My blood pressure is actually low - so opticians said very likely diabetes then … yet the blood tests says no?! Last one I had for diabetes was about 6 months ago.

both grandmothers were/are diabetic

Any ideas?! Can the blood tests be wrong??

Watching with interest as I have similar symptoms

HumphreyCushionintheHouse · 05/04/2025 22:13

I have all these symptoms, plus joint pain and dry mouth and dry eyes (causing me to drink/wee constantly and wake up with crusty eyes and mouth), and was diagnosed with Sjogrens syndrome.

Sminty2 · 05/04/2025 22:17

If your last diabetes test was six months ago, it would be sensible to get another soon. You can buy one if you can’t get a doctor’s appointment quickly.

Have you looked at the symptoms of Diabetes Insipidus? Similar name but not related to types 1 & 2, but it causes excessive thirst and urination.

It could also be that your other symptoms are separate issues.

Workoutrage · 05/04/2025 22:20

Hypercalcemia can cause similar symptoms.

TomatoSandwiches · 05/04/2025 22:20

Have you lost any weight? Nausea? Since your last test?
I lost 10kg in one month without trying because I was just thirsty not hungry and felt nauseous around food before my diagnosis.

Tipofthecattoes · 05/04/2025 22:22

MS?

I have zero appetite. I’m basically living off meal replacement shakes with one actual meal a day.

Its quite easy to get a finger prick test have you tested recently ?
My son was in DKA on diagnosis its life threatning i wouldnt wish it on anyone

TheSilentSister · 05/04/2025 22:49

Do you have the NHS app OP and have access to the test result scores? Might be interesting to see what your scores are and if you're close.

I'm pre-diabetic after probably years of suspecting it.

Heathershimmerwinner · 05/04/2025 22:57

I don’t mean to scare you and I’m probably one in a few thousand plus, but I had those symptoms, especially the thirst and the peeing. Mines was an ovarian tumor. All removed now and doing ok. Now I get paranoid if I get constantly thirsty now.

I'm T2 & I can't explain why you're coming up negative. Was it a fasting test?

Not a fasting test no. HBA1C

Hmm maybe suggest one? Fasting?

AlmostAJillSandwich · 05/04/2025 23:17

My dad went from normal to type 2 in a month. Your 6 month old test may be right but you could have developed it since then.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 05/04/2025 23:19

You can get a finger prick blood sugar test done by a pharmacist.. or buy own monitor and strips if you wish
i’m prediabetic(46mmols) and trying to reduce and have no symptoms.
You do have symptoms of diabetes but other conditions too
The eye condition mentioned could be narrow angle Glaucoma( much rarer than open angle) is unlikely to be related.
I have Glaucoma and my DM was T1

I would definitely go back for a HbA1c, something is wrong if you can't eat normally along with your other symptoms.
