To go to A&E/Badger?

Posting here for traffic, sorry.

Just noticed this on 5.5 year old DD, have been playing in the sunshine today and took lots of photos, none of which this shows in, so it’s appeared rather quickly.

no other symptoms, but it isn’t fading under a glass, and health anxiety is making me feel I should contact 111 or head to badger for it?

One part of me thinks it looks like she’s bashed it maybe off something, but it’s how quick it’s came up that’s throwing me off course.

any advice is appreciated.

I’d say if anything mn is more brutal, friends and family are more likely to mollycoddle you and tell you what you want to hear. Depending on your F&F I guess.

OP! Stop posting pictures, she doesn’t have meningitis. I mean this kindly.

Ciaroscuro · 05/04/2025 19:54

OP I have health anxiety in relation to my kids. I am currently talking myself down as my 18 year old has nausea and fell asleep in the car - after a day at Alton Towers being thrown around on rides, the day after the end of a term where he has been burning the candle at both ends doing 4 A levels.

I can reliably say that is nothing. It looks like mild petechiae from something pulling the skin. Maybe the rope from a swing or a bag strap or something.

A petechial rash that is related to meningitis appears in a severely ill child. A petechial rash in blood disorders usually spreads rapidly and in bigger spoldges and if related to low platelets tends to appear in the legs and feet first (I assume due to gravity).

Please don't worry. Try very hard to consider the whole child rather than a symptom in isolation.

Why are you still asking people?

You went to your husband, as advised by your therapist - he reassured you. It should have ended there.

But instead you posted on an internet forum, where you are continually asking again and again 'is this okay' 'What about this photo?'

You are feeding your anxiety.

reachermarry · 05/04/2025 19:54

I think it might be the sun, as I now seem to have marks all over me.

these also do not fade lol.

I’ve checked her now she’s quiet, and she has marks at the back of her leg too, so I’m thinking she’s fell in the garden, probably off her bench 🤦🏻‍♀️ and caught herself, as our garden is full of trees and hedges/flowers.

Thanks again for all the advice, I’ll keep a close eye on it regardless.

The latest pics look like my allergy rash. Has she been lying on the grass?
The first one looks like she has caught it on a plastic slide maybe??

See what it looks like after a cool bath.

Iwannakeepondancing · 05/04/2025 19:58

It will be a bruise where she’s caught it on something I’m sure. My son often has them under his arms etc after playing.

I can’t lie to you User, you’re the only person on this forum who has provided no advice or been helpful in anyway possible.

What is your actual problem? I’m not harming anyone, im not harming you. Instead you keep coming back onto the post looking for things to downplay me on, and it’s actually quite hurtful. I’ve already admitted in regards to my anxiety, and how I do receive “ help “ for it that should’ve been enough for you.

But instead it isn’t, you just keep coming back with more snide comments and insult.

everyone on Mumsnet has been brilliant, offered solid advice, and offered a holding hand if they’ve too suffered with a mental disorder. You’ve done nothing of the sort and infact have just been quite horrible to be honest.

I wish you well regardless.

once again, thank you to everyone.

That doesn't look like a rash at all. Wrong pattern, not the typical area for a rash to start either. It looks like to me like a tiny bruise where blood has come to the surface underneath the skin, like might be caused by pinching, rubbing or friction.

If she's otherwise completely well and it isn't spreading I'd really not worry about it.

The recent photo is my own arm, not my child’s.

I’ve took 2 photos of her arm. One when I originally seen the mark. And the second I literally just took to reply to a poster. ( dd unaware )

and in regards to the “ size of her shits “ get out of it, it was a comedic sentence to show to people who was asking if she was ok in herself. Please tell me what other intimate details I’ve shared regarding my child.

you would actually find it funny to know that the therapist recommends taking a photo of marks and saving them to a library, so if they happen again in the future I can go back on photo albums and see that I’ve dealt with these marks before.

It’s a bruise, it will go in a few days

I8toys · 05/04/2025 20:04

People saying just go to the GP - its not that bloody simple anymore. If you can get an appointment.

OP I also suffer with health anxiety its horrible and debilitating. Others have absolutely no clue how it consumes you and is totally irrational.

Please take a breath and just keep an eye on it. Monitor and maybe draw a ring around it to see if anything changes.

Okay if you've both got it, and in the second photo it does look more rashlike, it's likely there is something in your garden that is a skin irritant and you've both been brushing against it.

Yes, now after calming down a bit I too think it’s fiction, possible by the sun screen application earlier.

Not wanting sun cream on, and playing with sand mid application twisting and turning 🤦🏻‍♀️

The last photo is MY arm, I’ve repeatedly said this, and it was my signing off post, it was to say I think it could possibly be heat related because I too now have strange non fading marks on my arm 🤦🏻‍♀️

I think the whole garden is an irritant lol.

the birds love the garden though 🦅

Is there anything else you are worried about apart from the scratch on your daughter’s arm?

I’m full of worry at the minute. I’m awaiting blood test results back for myself after needing a retest done because of high WBC , and I also have a hospital appointment on Wednesday for a tilt table tests. So I do have a bit of worry going on at the minute outside of this evening.

I personally wouldn’t worry if otherwise ok.

That’s not heat rash @reachermarry - it’s called a petechial rash. My DC used to get them all the time when they were younger. I was always advised (when they first started getting them) to go straight to A&E for a blood test as it could be something more, but, after 6-7 times of having these, I would monitor them closely; if they were poorly / had other symptoms. More often than not, they seemed to get them after playing - even carrying a heavy rucksack would cause them to have a petechial rash under their arms. IMO, I would call 111 and ask their advice in this instance and monitor closely

I had the same thing with mine - one in particular was prone to getting them on or under his arms if we'd picked him up that way, on the side of his neck when carrying even quite a light bag, round his eyes after he'd been sick, sometimes just on his torso randomly, just one or two, and sometimes more when ill (we always got advice if it went with illness).

The first time he randomly got them he was about two or three, I think, and we hadn't worked out the connection with us picking him up under his arms. We saw a GP who sent us off to A&E to be on the safe side (everything was fine).

Eventually we worked out what was a 'normal' petechial rash for him and what was unusual. We did get sent to A&E a couple more times, but it was always fine.

It's hard enough not to worry at the best of times if you're prone to health anxiety, and an awful lot harder when you feel like you've been told something is an officially worrying sign (a rash not going away under a glass), so of course you shouldn't ignore it, and then suddenly people are telling you of course you can ignore it and implying you're stupid to even consider it might matter. Ignore all the people being scornful.

Being alert to something like this is parenting - it's true health anxiety can make that harder (with always wanting reassurance), but it's completely sensible to notice what's going on with your child. I'm sure if she's well in herself it's not likely to be anything to worry about, but it's reasonable to have noticed it and to keep an eye on it.
