Posting here for traffic, sorry.

Just noticed this on 5.5 year old DD, have been playing in the sunshine today and took lots of photos, none of which this shows in, so it’s appeared rather quickly.

no other symptoms, but it isn’t fading under a glass, and health anxiety is making me feel I should contact 111 or head to badger for it?

One part of me thinks it looks like she’s bashed it maybe off something, but it’s how quick it’s came up that’s throwing me off course.

any advice is appreciated.

It looks like she has sucked her arm.
Kids do stupid stuff

ItsaMeMummio · 05/04/2025 19:06

It's a bruise. A very small bruise.

I wouldn't give it another thought OP!

no it doesn’t fade under a glass, I checked this

Fading under a glass is for rashes, not scrapes and bruises

AquaPeer · 05/04/2025 19:05

You don’t need to head to a&e. A scratch or bruise won’t disappear under a glass.

Plus there are other rashes that don’t disappear under a glass that aren’t meningitis. A rash that doesn’t disappear is a symptom to be considered with others, it doesn’t mean had to a&e whenever you have a mark on your body that doesn’t disappear under a glass!

This! Not every mark that doesn’t fade needs an a&e visit, especially when there are zero other symptoms.

reachermarry · 05/04/2025 19:08

This is a better photo of it.

I came on here just to ask for opinions, I didn’t want to make a haste decision

Still confident it’s nothing. Is your daughter feeling particularly unwell?

reachermarry · 05/04/2025 19:11

@ToKittyornottoKitty

no is absolutely fine in herself, has still been asking for snacks, taking advantage of the weekend both mom and dad are off work and is currently running around playing, and has JUST came in announcing she’d had a big poo that looked like a circle

….kids

Cynic17 · 05/04/2025 19:12

It's barely noticeable. She will be absolutely fine- we're all had much worse scratches.
Please don't go to A&E - you will be laughed out of the room.

reachermarry · 05/04/2025 19:12

No fever, nothing out of the ordinary.

feet are freezing, and I know this because she’s purposely putting her feet on me because she knows they’re cold.

Chalk this one up to anxiety then! She’s a happy healthy kids who’s gotten a small scrape while playing, it’s a good day to be a kid. Health anxiety is awful though and makes you question everything. I’m guessing DH isn’t worried?

DH looked at it, and inspected it for 30 seconds

i think to please me

then said “ it looks like nothing, we’re at the hospital Wednesday, if you’re still worried get them to have a look then “ ( we’re at the hospital for myself )

he is much more the calmer level headed person, but I openly admitted I do suffer with health anxiety. And recently things have just spiralled, so the ground I found has now gone again.
she’s my only child, so I am overly protective too

It looks like a scratch or possibly what we used to call Itchy Bumps as children, ie little itchy slightly raised bumps that come from nowhere. They’re more common in hot weather.

You are already harming your child - taking several photos of her arm and making a fuss over a tiny thing when she is well. She will be picking up on your excessive concern and start to see herself as something fragile, something easily broken and damaged and soon she will become anxious as well.

If you are being treated for health anxiety then you should know that you should not be posting on forums about things like this - you should have been given exercises to do to calm yourself down.

Get off mumsnet and do what you have been advised to do.

People will say I'm harsh but I am so fed up of parents using health anxiety to waste medical resources and put their children through harmful procedures.

mummysmagicmedicine · 05/04/2025 19:18

I get this regularly if I scratch an itch but it comes from when you scratch too hard it’s like a lot of little pools of blood. No need to worry lovely xx

Phase2 · 05/04/2025 19:21

My son had meningitis as a toddler. The rash is one of the last things to appear and he was significantly unwell by the time it was visible. You need to find help or this will impact your daughter’s life as well. Maybe a first aid course, download the St John’s app, keep a snapshot of meningitis symptoms on your fridge or bedroom mirror. Take ownership and empower yourself with facts not fears.

Concretejungle1 · 05/04/2025 19:22

Why do you want to see a gp, For what? Can you explain/think why?
there is no actual rash, barely a bruise?
she has scratched/ caught herself from being a child, why do you want it checked out? i have anxiety so i do understand, but think rationally, why do you want to get checked out, for what?
breathe, go through what your gp/counsellor is doing with you and keep calm.

Whilst I appreciate the time you took to write this comment, i dont know if you’ve been treated for health anxiety, my guess is you haven’t.

there is no miracle exercises you can be given to help yourself “ calm down “ that isn’t how it works. My therapist advice was to “ speak to family and friends “ which I came on here to ask people with children, experiences and advice on what others would do.

I wouldn’t be putting my child through any harmful procedures, and she has only ever been seen by a GP for infections and also a long hospital outpatient for constipation when younger.

I took one photo of her arm, the second photo is exactly the same, just zoomed in. There hasn’t been multiple pictures taken.

once again, thank you for the time to write the comment, but I’m wasting no medical resources because I came on here and spoke to people with experiences, who have helped me calm down and realise she may of caught it outside, or I myself could’ve caused it with sun cream earlier ( friction, she was playing in the sand at the time )

Looks like heat rash to me

Frenzi · 05/04/2025 19:26

FFS what is it about these should I go to A&E posts!

If you are concerned go. If you have to ask a load of unknowns on MN you probably dont need to go!

What the hell did we do before we could ask randoms on social media!!!!

Differentstarts · 05/04/2025 19:27

Please please do not pass your health anxiety on to your child. I know its hard but you are overreacting and your child is fine. Taking photos and dragging them to a&e or a walk in centre will have an effect on your child's future mental health. I'm sure you know yourself how horrific and debilitating health anxiety is and I'm sure you don't want that for your child so please stop with the photos, talking about health infront of her and unnecessary medical appointments.

Tell her to put some socks on then? It's not actually that warm out of the sun, I've just come inside from a BBQ because I was cold!

Frenzi · 05/04/2025 19:28

Unless you think it is meningitis a rash is neither an accident or an emergency.

Do the glass test test. Ring 111. Dont rely on randoms and photos!
