To go to A&E/Badger?

Posting here for traffic, sorry.

Just noticed this on 5.5 year old DD, have been playing in the sunshine today and took lots of photos, none of which this shows in, so it’s appeared rather quickly.

no other symptoms, but it isn’t fading under a glass, and health anxiety is making me feel I should contact 111 or head to badger for it?

One part of me thinks it looks like she’s bashed it maybe off something, but it’s how quick it’s came up that’s throwing me off course.

any advice is appreciated.

Roll a glass over it. If it fades under the pressure, it’ll just be something she managed to do whilst playing. If it doesn’t fade at all, or more appears, head to a&e. Trust your instincts.

"Trust your instincts" is not really a helpful thing to say to someone with health anxiety.

Kaybee50 · 05/04/2025 19:30

The rash that is associated with meningitis (meningococcal septicaemia) doesn’t fade under a glass. However a child that has this rash is likely to be very poorly indeed and deteriorating rapidly. They wouldn’t just have the rash and no other symptoms. I hope that puts your mind at rest.

Pricelessadvice · 05/04/2025 19:31

Please do not waste hospital time over a tiny little scratch/bruise/rash.
A&E is for serious accidents and emergencies, not tiny scrapes.

SoManyTeeth · 05/04/2025 19:32

Has she been playing on a swing or something similar? The skin on that bit of the arm is very thin, so if it gets stretched or pinched by something like a swing chain or rope, it can cause tiny pinpricks of bleeding under the skin that don't fade when pressed. And it's not a particularly sensitive area so you might not always notice it happening or feel any pain.

Do not ring 111

Its better to bother 111 than go to a&e. Alhough as i said, if you have time to ask MN randoms it really doesnt warrant either!

RosesAndHellebores · 05/04/2025 19:33

What would you have done in previous generations op. When there was no A&E and when some money was needed to see the Dr?

Frankly I think this is one of the principle reasons why we need a social Insurance system and money has to change hands albeit to be reclaimed except for the deprived.

wagnbobble · 05/04/2025 19:33

I know what the Badger clinic is ! However with that mark I wouldn’t take a child there with this . It is most likely a scratch type injury so it won’t fade under a glass . Health anxiety is brutal as it invades your thoughts , so go easy on yourself

Freyer · 05/04/2025 19:34

That’s not heat rash @reachermarry - it’s called a petechial rash. My DC used to get them all the time when they were younger. I was always advised (when they first started getting them) to go straight to A&E for a blood test as it could be something more, but, after 6-7 times of having these, I would monitor them closely; if they were poorly / had other symptoms. More often than not, they seemed to get them after playing - even carrying a heavy rucksack would cause them to have a petechial rash under their arms. IMO, I would call 111 and ask their advice in this instance and monitor closely

Frenzi · 05/04/2025 19:34

ThePinkPowerRangers · 05/04/2025 19:28

She doesn’t need to go because there is nothing to go for.

Exactly. If your child needs a&e you shouldnt have time to ask about it on bloody MN or any other social media

AliBaliBee1234 · 05/04/2025 19:35

I think you might be wondering if it's a petechea rash? It certainly doesn't look it to me but if you have a close up, i will have a look (very prone to petechea)

spicemaiden · 05/04/2025 19:35

Is there anything else you are worried about apart from the scratch on your daughter’s arm?

When someone with health anxiety rings 111 they are prone to exaggerate, not lie but it genuinely seems worse to them then it is 111 can not see the child's arm so has to go by what the caller is telling them. 111 also always cover their backs so will likely end up with an ambulance on blue lights for suspected meningitis when it's blatantly obvious to anyone who can see it that there is absolutely nothing wrong

HowToChangeWays · 05/04/2025 19:37

Looks like it's lined up with the top of her top so rubbed. Dd gets this in certain tops

Edited

Exactly, they’ll send an ambulance the minute they hear rash which doesn’t fade.

gamerchick · 05/04/2025 19:39

Put the bairn in some jarmies so it's covered and get on with your evening. You're going to annoy her with all the glass rolling and photos. Leave her alone and find something to do to take your mind off it.

Topsyturvy78 · 05/04/2025 19:39

Looks like an insect bite try putting some Germolene on it.

PumpkinSpicedLatte · 05/04/2025 19:40

It looks like a bruise OP. Sending you hugs though as I imagine health anxiety is terrible. I have a lot of anxiety around sickness bugs and that feels bad enough so having general health anxieties must feel awful.
if it was something nasty, it would be more wide spread. Take care x

Mumsnet is not family or friends. Family and friends are people who know you and have your best interests at heart.

WhatWasPromised · 05/04/2025 19:43

It looks like a bruise, the type where you pinch yourself on something. I tend it get something similar from the ligature they use for a blood test.

What is your problem? Her DH had already checked it and reassured her but she was still struggling so asked for advice here and has taken it and is feeling calmer now. Stand down grumpy

Nosleepforthismum · 05/04/2025 19:46

I get very anxious around my kids health as well OP so I get it. However, bruises, scratches and scrapes are not something that I think twice about as my kids are covered in them at all times and I have no idea where half of them came from. This isn’t something that I would be concerned about at all and tbh I probably wouldn’t even notice it.

I’m at loss here as to what I’ve done that has offended anyone?? I haven’t called anyone medical for advice and wasted resources, I went to my husband! Before Mumsnet,

A non-blanching rash is one of the last sign of meningococcal septicemia, so as your daughter is well in herself, I'd wager it's a rash, a little pinch, or some sort of bruising.

Sure keep an eye on her, that can't hurt, but you really don't need a&e or the walk in.

reachermarry · 05/04/2025 19:51

@AliBaliBee1234

is this one any good? Sorry about the lighting, but really don’t want to disturb her lol.

Hi OP,

It's okay I think your daughter is fine. The thing about a rash not fading under glass only matters if she has lots of other symptoms assocaited with meningitis.

So if she has high fever, and the lights hurts her eyes, and vomiting and she can't touch her chin to her chest. If she had those and the non-fading rash then that would be a problem.

If she is otherwise well and has a non-fading rash, then that's okay.

I'm sorry to hear that you have health anxiety. I have that too, and it's such a difficult thing to live with. You're doing really well though. Take care there.
