Please don't come at me, because I really need to ask this question and wonder if I am too horrible of a person to even do such a thing/to think about this.

Family of mine and her husband are GP’s. The amount of constant patient trashing, making fun of people who have been born with no choice, calling them low class, how stupid their patients are etc its on another level. They obviously became doctors for the prestige, but because they gently care about helping people.

I do not have a proof per se, but I was wondering if I report them i suppose no action will be taken against them since I do not have a recording as a proof or unless a patient complains about them.

Does anyone know if there is anything that can be done or reported?

@Floweryoga , what an appalling thing to contemplate doing. Would it help you get over feelings of envy/inadequacy?

So you have no proof, just an axe to grind about family members and you would like to cause them professional harm.

I think that says quite a lot about you, rather than them.

Gosh no ,there’s absolutely nothing you can do other than tell them what you think when they say things in front of you…..there’s recently been a Dr. in the news who committed rape who’s been allowed to continue practising because it was deemed a “ one off” so I’m not sure they are going to do anything for those who trash talk!

Here's the thing, GP, Dr's etc, come across people every singe day, who ignore medical advice, make very poor choices, expect everyone to pick up after them, expect the unachievable, speak to them like they are the enemy, it is demoralising, so unless you are doing the job they are, back off!

I mean it's pretty horrible yes.

And unless they're giving names and other identifying details, they're doing nothing wrong except getting their frustration off their chests.

Lanzarotelady · 04/04/2025 17:52

Dear GMC, I have no proof of this but my family member who is a GP makes disparaging comments about their patients, again I have no proof of this, I have just heard it!

PhilippaGeorgiou · 04/04/2025 17:52

If they are doing that, then that's sad. About as sad as the GP bashing on here and elsewhere? It's something of an irony asking on MN, which has at least daily "lower class/benefits/disabilty/ whatever" bashing threads - half the posters will agree with them.

I am a GP.
Medical humour can be very dark and may seem callous to people not in health care. Just be aware that despite this trashing of patients they may be kind and helpful to people they see.
Doctors are under huge stress.
As long as they are not breaking confidentiality they have done nothing wrong but they are behaving appallingly and such behaviour is not appropriate publicly.
It sounds like they have forgotten their privilege- somebody needs to remind them.
