Did I actually hear him use the word rape in his presidential address?

I have been blindsided listening to the ‘content’ by the flippant use of that word.

I can't get over the chart

LakieLady · 02/04/2025 22:12

I still can't get my head round the thought processes that make someone conclude that voting for Trump was a good idea.

strawlight · 02/04/2025 22:12

In what way will these tariffs affect the average person living in the UK?

midlandsmummy123 · 02/04/2025 22:12

What about digital products e.g software developed in the UK but by US owned companies or is it only for physical items imported into the US?

If Grandpa Jo and useless cackling Kamala Harris had done a better job with the border rather than worrying about trans madness, we wouldn’t be here.

Trump is the oldest president to have been inaugurated. He’s only a few years younger than Biden. Also, by this point in his presidency, Biden had deported more people than Trump.

Barney16 · 02/04/2025 22:13

But I have to say the chart is amazing. Straight out of 1970 Blue Peter, sticky backed plastic and a marker pen.

YouFetidMoppet · 02/04/2025 22:18

It's like watching a bunch of Frat boys play monopoly. The WhatsApp thing was madness and shows the level of delusion they are all at. It is quite scary to see such incompetence from such arrogant people.

Middleagedstriker · 02/04/2025 22:18

I wish I could ask a trump voter if they are yet feeling a bit embarrassed. At what point to they go "oh, wait I really fucked up". Or does it never happen. Or like Brexit voters they either dig deeper or pretend they didn't or were "lied to" (despite the whole sane world telling them not to).

If the figures for tariffs levied by other countries on the US are correct, I think the Trump tariffs are totally understandable. As we know, the EU for example is a massive protectionist racket.

And still shit despite being so protectionist. Since the financial crash, EU growth has been pathetic, while the US raced ahead.

Yet the best Biden could manage was to walk into the bushes everytime he was let loose in the Rose Garden of the White House.

Northern Ireland will be able to milk that 10% difference. Businesses there should be making plans.

But they won’t, because this country is shit at making the best of anything

It’s like a 1980s weather forecast with Michael Fish.

SnoozingFox · 02/04/2025 22:24

I'm self-employed and work for many US customers. I have upped my rates for them too. Call it a Scottish tariff.

They are completely made up

Do enlighten me as to how any of this will lower the cost of living in the USA?

It may not. His aim is to make the US wealthier. Presumably tariffs are considered one of several avenues that will contribute to the price relief Trump has pledged.

And yet still managed to hand over an incredibly strong economy that the orange buffoon is currently destroying.

I’m sure it is his aim because he seems to have absolutely zero grasp of how a global economy works, which makes sense considering he managed to bankrupt casinos.

Tariffs won’t contribute to price relief considering they’re paid by US businesses when they import the goods. Said businesses will then pass the increased costs on to the consumer.

Annajones101 · 02/04/2025 22:30

Look at everyone here worrying about the US. You may want to worry more about the basket case that is the UK economy or useless EU.

The US produces home grown energy and produces much of its own food. While Europe is busy being mugged off importing gas and oil in favour of plundering billions in the name of the net 0 scam.

justasking111 · 02/04/2025 22:30

It's going to be years before they know if this tactic has worked. If they rebuild their economy that's great for them. It's going to take a lot of willing people to retrain/change jobs.

Renamed · 02/04/2025 22:32

This will cost US households (because that’s what tariffs do, they make people in the country imposing them pay for the imported goods) an estimated average of 5000 dollars per year … but I’m not sure there’s any point posting facts here.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 02/04/2025 22:32

Barney16 · 02/04/2025 22:07

He's mad. America doesn't make everything they need more cheaply than imports are. And they can't suddenly expand their manufacturing capacity. It takes time to build capacity.

It's making my head hurt because US cars (to pick one example industry) are all made with parts imported from Europe and China. Hasn't he just put the cost of manufacturing in the US through the roof? That would include the much lauded Tesla who import loads of parts?

The only explanation is, as you say, he is mad.

drspouse · 02/04/2025 22:32

Yep. And parts made in Canada and Mexico. Parts can & do cross borders multiple times. Tariff charged each time.

justasking111 · 02/04/2025 22:36

I was fascinated watching his hair lift in the breeze.

Barney16 · 02/04/2025 22:37

Also if he raises tariffs manufacturers outside the us who previously imported to the us will look for other markets. Their products would be too expensive, no one in the us will be able to afford them. So they won't sell. Therefore alternative markets. So taking that to the logical conclusion trump won't get any income from tariffs because nothing will be going into the country. So all that money he is going to make off tariffs? No Donald.
