its getting me down, I’m completely unable to go to toilet. The only thing that works is dulcolax but that gives me a day of agonising diarrhoea.

I went to pharmacy, they suggested lactose- I’ve been taking it all week and nothing - I feel like I need to go but nothing is happening and I’ve been taking 30mls daily

Trying to avoid laxido as the taste makes me gag but is that literally the only thing left to try?

Prune juice used to work but not anymore 😭

You probably already know that iron supplements can cause constipation. If you must take them, then fresh orange juice will help.
You can also get iron from dried apricots which will also help with bowels.
Sweetcorn, beetroot, blueberries may also help.
(as will a night of a little too much alcohol to get things moving the next day!)

Sorbitol. A sugar substitute used in an increasing number of things.

I once, by mistake, bought some jam intended for diabetic people. Thank God I didn't go out after eating some is all I have to say about that.

I recently had a cough and bought some cough mixture to take at night. Needed the loo quite urgently in the mornings. Didn't realise the cough mixture had sorbitol until I read the label.

And things like packets of mints have it. Eat too many in a short time....

Dried apricots
Fresh apple, skin on
1 litre water drunk over a hour
footstool in front of toilet

OneKookyPinkShaker · 02/04/2025 20:55

As others have said kiwi but try with the skin on, pears, flaxseeds

Feet up on stool and try belly breathing and moo to poo method.

Laxido

Loads of watee

I suffer with constipation caused by a prolapse and pelvic floor physio has given me these tips

incandescentglow · 02/04/2025 20:55

i second a saltwater flush but you have to follow it very strictly or it wont work properly and youll just be full of salt water
they are my last resorts and they do work

after that, keep on top of water intake (as soon i start slacking i get problems)
fruit helps a lot too

CharlotteCChapel · 02/04/2025 20:57

Prunes, they contain a laxative plus fibre. DH had an awful bout of consolation following an operation, the only thing that worked were suppositories.

Wobblemonster · 02/04/2025 20:57

Sorry for the massive link 😬

Oldermum84 · 02/04/2025 20:58

Prune juice and black coffee... Good luck!

BreatheAndFocus · 02/04/2025 20:59

When I was pregnant and didn’t want to take anything, a mix of pear juice and
prune juice twice a day (half and half) along with a tablespoon of olive oil drizzled over my evening meal worked for me brilliantly. It took two or three days, but the result was very good - and a great relief. No pain, all natural. If you can’t get pear juice, use apple juice instead.

MissRoseDurward · 02/04/2025 20:59

Sugar free gummy bears from Amazon.

Sorbitol, I bet, like I said above.

njg575 · 02/04/2025 20:59

A strong coffee

Prune juice

Glycerin suppositories

Spottidogs · 02/04/2025 21:02

Red wine for me. Or Laxido orange flavour isn't too bad.

menopausalmare · 02/04/2025 21:04

Drink a bottle of pinot grigio.

Maverick66 · 02/04/2025 21:04

Castor oil around belly button every night until you get relief.
Soft pears at breakfast or last thing night . Fresh or tinned in juice but must be ripe.

user1467306011 · 02/04/2025 21:06

Try drinking as strong black coffee with as many sugar you can stomach in it. It certainly works. Don't add any milk to it.

Hellodarknessmyoldfrien · 02/04/2025 21:10

The best constipation cure is sex - p in v sex. Use a dildo if you don't have a penis available.
And drink lots of water.

BelloItalia · 02/04/2025 21:12

Thank you, I’ve just ordered a bag. DH is getting annoyed as he’s trying to watch his volcano program and I’m laughing my head off at the Amazon reviews 😂😂 someone compared themselves to an agricultural muck spreader 🤣

Few more things to note

im teetotal

When I was in Italy I opened my bowels every single day. I can’t understand why?! As soon as I got home it stopped again. All I can think is we live in a hard water area?

Figs. Fresh or dried.

Stress? Different diet? Gut flora?

XenoBitch · 02/04/2025 21:16

Have a look on YouTube for constipation massages you can do to encourage things along.
The comments are worth a read for a giggle too.

MermaidMilkshake · 02/04/2025 21:17

Try Gentle Iron tablets available from H&B as these cause less constipation.
Very strong black coffee helped after I was severely constipated after a c-section.

Spottidogs · 02/04/2025 21:18

There are quite a few yoga for guts videos on YouTube.

nocoolnamesleft · 02/04/2025 21:18

Movicol/laxido disimpaction regime.
