...of dissenting voices in the US?
Heather Cox Richardson (HCR) is a well known and well regarded American political historian and journalist.
For some time she has been writing a 'daily letter' documenting what is currently going on in the US - sometimes it is an outline of what has actually happened in the past couple of days - documenting history as it is happening, other times it is a recounting of historical events which resonate with what is going on today.
She has a substack which people can subscribe to but also posts her daily letter on Facebook where she has almost 3 million followers.
Her substack is here (its free) https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/
Over the past couple of days her most recent posts on FB have been disappearing including her live streams. She has not been banned, she has had no notification that posts have been reported - they are simply disappearing not just from her followers feeds but from her own timeline.
If you go to her page now the latest post visible is 26th March. Sone of the posts from 27th onwards are still just about findable if you search for her name and go to 'posts' but for all intents and purposes they're gone!
'Shadow banning' and algorithm manipulation on FB has been a thing for a while but I've never known posts to actually be erased from someone's own page - let alone such a public figure with so many followers.
The censorship of dissenting voices in the US has always been a thing on social media but the scale and blatentness of it over the past few weeks is astonishing.
We need to find ways of making sure we can still read and engage with people who are trying to get the message out there about what is really going on, on a daily basis, in the US given the global impact!
TL/DR - the brilliant historical journalist Heather Cox Richardson is being censored and shadow banned on social media, so sign up to her substack to get her 'daily letter' (it's free): https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/
