DS had an earache in one ear - now it’s in the other one!

6 year old DS started off with pain in his left ear last week. He was crying with it. I kept him off school , took him the pharmacist who prescribed some drops as he had a look inside and said DS’s ear was red and a bit inflamed.
That seemed to clear it up, and the pain went away.

Now today he’s said it’s the other ear that hurts. It does appear to look quite red externally. He wasn’t crying in pain like last time, but still holding his ear and saying it hurt.
We still have the drops so used them again and massaged the ear as directed previously. He’s gone to bed without a fuss tonight, since then. But I’m just wondering if it’s normal to have an ear ache in one ear and then the other a week later? Both presenting in similar ways.

It's probably congestion.

When there was a nasty cold going round recently I didn't actually catch it, but my left ear went deaf and it felt 'full' and painful with pressure.

I took decongestant tablets for a couple of days and then it was fine.

Until 3 days later when exactly the same thing happened in my other ear!
