For thinking that my 3 year old is trying to drive me insane! She won’t keep her socks on for love nor money. Is this normal at her age? Don’t think it’s sensory as doesn’t seem to have any other sensory issues but will always take them off given half the chance! No massive fuss putting them back on but I know damn well they’ll be off again the next chance she gets! Is this her trying to exert control? Its a small thing I know but it’s driving me potty

Why’s it annoying you so much? Just let her run around barefoot if that’s what she likes.

Because it’s freezing where we live!

And I don’t want this to be the start of her thinking she is in control of me - she’s a determined and headstrong little bugger 😂😬

Ah no, this isn’t her controlling you. Controlling you would be demanding chocolate for breakfast and screaming until you gave in and allowed it. It’s probably just her preference. Kids often don’t feel the cold like adults do.

If she’s 3, she’s probably old enough to understand that her feet might get cold with no socks, so she can take them off then tell Mummy if she wants them back on.

I think this is a molehill, honestly. No big deal at all.

At age 3 my dc went around with very little clothing on in the house

@NC28 yes I’m sure you’re right. I just couldn’t get my head around why she always wants to be barefoot when it’s absolutely freezing and also the lengths she’d go to, to keep taking them off. She does it in the car seat, while eating her dinner, watching tv. If I tell her to put them back on she does, but they’ll be off again the next time

My 15 year old is still adamant that socks are unnecessary at home. I've bought funky socks, sports socks, designer socks, slipper socks, and countless pairs of slippers over the years, but guaranteed he's walking around barefoot, without socks, whenever I see him. It drives me potty coz I'm a cold critter, but I figure at his age he must know if he's hot or cold now so I just let him get on with it.

@PeriMoan haha so I’ve potentially got years of this ahead of me? Oh god 🫣😂 She likes her shoes so she’ll happily wear those but i’m worried she’ll get poorly as it’s so cold here and she’s asthmatic so always want to make sure she stays warm

Mine wouldn't wear socks for over a year when she was 3. She does now. I wouldn't let it bother you.

The first thing I do when I get home from work is take off shoes, socks, and bra. I much, much prefer being barefoot.

I even go barefoot outside if it’s safe to do so (if I’m in a park, etc.) and at work (I have my own office).

I rarely get cold, I run quite warm whatever the weather. Maybe your DC is the same?

I’m 60. My socks come off as soon as I get in the house and I switch to sandals as soon as it wouldn’t make me look weird. I hate socks. They are uncomfortable. I feel the cold too, but socks seem to make little difference to my overall temperature.

As for running warm, her feet always feel absolutely freezing so can’t see how she can be warm enough. When my feet are cold, I’m freezing all over 🥶

DS used to hide his. I found them stuffed down the side of the sofa, under the cushions, and once they were tucked into the back of his nappy.

What about putting tights on her? Less easy to get off, so less opportunity. 🤣

Some of them never improve with socks. My youngest is now almost 23 and never wears pairs of socks, always mixed up and odd ones!! It has always driven me nuts but I just have to eyeroll and she gets on with it. 🤣

@Thelnebriati ditto! Always finding a random sock stuffed down the sofa or back of radiator or in the playdough box!

If you have wooden/veneer floors then socks should be off. Much safer

My dd always seemed to have warm feet, I can’t remember if she was a sock-shedder but she’d sleep with her feet out at the bottom of the duvet.

When I was a kid growing up in a house with no central heating I’d get chilblains. If your child isn’t suffering from those she’s probably fine. If she is I suppose you could see what happens if you try tights under trousers.

I would rather have cold feet than hot, I’ve always been like that, so if my feet start getting even a little too warm the socks have to go.

They're not too small for her, are they? Restricting? I don't wear socks in the house. I seem to shrink them all and they pretty quickly get uncomfortable.
