Anyone else addicted to sunshine?

rosedahlialily · 27/03/2025 15:35

I think I have an addiction to sunlight/ sunshine. Obviously we live in the UK and don’t get a lot of it year round, but when I see some sunshine on my weather app, I’m obsessed with being able to spend as much time as possible out in it. I worked outside the entire day yesterday to try and soak it up. If someone asks me to do an indoor activity on a sunny day, I have to decline or feel genuinely upset if I have to do it. When the sun hits my face I feel so energised and happy.
Do I have a problem!? Does anyone else feel this way?

I was sat in the garden with numerous cats for two hours this morning.....bliss

Sunshine + cats is all I want when I get to the pearly gates!

Oh yes. I love sunshine, and feel resentful if I can't be outside to enjoy it. My DH considers it a wasted sunset if he doesn't use his drone to get a photo of a building or landscape lit up by the setting sun. And those who moan about sunny weather (especially on Mumsnet) really annoy me: I hide those threads as soon as they appear.

shellyleppard · 27/03/2025 16:22

@rosedahlialily my idea of sheer heaven...

Also a lovely cup of tea ☕

ilovesooty · 27/03/2025 16:23

I love sunshine. No interest in dark, cosy and snuggling.

Topknotted · 27/03/2025 16:26

No. I lived in a monotonously hot, dry, sunny climate for a couple of years and loathed it. I returned to London with an appreciation for drizzle.

Touty · 27/03/2025 16:26

i used to live in Spain and sunshine everyday soon got boring, I used to long for rain and clouds.

tipsyraven · 27/03/2025 16:30

I am but have had skin cancer on my face so now use sunscreen/wear a hat or both.

catlovingdoctor · 27/03/2025 16:35

Yep me! Can't wait to move somewhere that's sunny every day of the year !

offmynut · 27/03/2025 16:36

I love all the weather MN hates.

TortolaParadise · 27/03/2025 16:37

Yes, yes, yes!🎉

Oh god yeah.
The suggestion that ’snuggling in your pjs with a blanket and a hot choccie’ is the best thing ever makes me want to scream.

I’ve got to go to someone’s drinks next Saturday at 4pm and we are forecast non stop sunshine and they’ve booked an indoor venue with no garden - I’m not going until 7pm 😅 as refuse to spend a weekend day indoors, have enough of that in the working week. Obsessed by being out there.
I go to the beach for every sunrise that I can as well 😅 I swear I can feel it healing me 🙏

CoconutQueen · 27/03/2025 17:22

I feel the same OP; can't get enough of it. Am finding the British winters harder and harder the older I get.

No, not a fan. I don't react well to the heat.

Fair enough, but it was nice and sunny here last week with a max temperture of 12c. I don't think anyone but a polar bear would describe that as "hot".

No I totally get this! DH gets annoyed at me for requesting outdoor meals/drinks when his family book dark pubs on a hot summers day. I can’t compromise when the suns out! ☀️

You're right I should have been much clearer, we all have different levels of understanding.

I don't do well in the heat. By heat I mean late 20s and above.

Littlemisscapable · 27/03/2025 17:33

Yes !

tillyandmilly · 27/03/2025 17:33

I love the sun but not the heat aspect - 68F perfect temp for me! No hotter though!

Moier · 27/03/2025 17:34

Yes me.
It's better than any medication for my painful joints and bones .
Natural vitamin D really is a Godsend.
I'm lucky to have a villa in The Canaries and go often in the winter months . We do go to Cyprus and the Greek islands a lot too.

Me too.
Love the light - crave the light in Winter.
Not fond of the heat.
Today was perfect.

Thankfully my other half feels the same! It seems madness to be indoors so we’re going to another pub garden and will join in later on with everyone else 😍 I’m so excited, first pub afternoon of the year! Yes it won’t be exactly hot, but we’ll have layers as the afternoon turns to evening and I can’t bloody wait 😎☀️ might sound sad but I’m genuinely buzzing for it

Lookuptotheskies · 27/03/2025 18:12

Me! I joked to my son yesterday that I think I'm solar powered!

stayathomegardener · 27/03/2025 18:20

Yes me!
Slightly gratifying when I recently received my genetics tests back to see I potentially have difficulties up taking vitamin D.

stayathomegardener · 27/03/2025 18:21

Don’t they say we are just plants with complicated emotions.

TwoRobins · 27/03/2025 18:21

No. I've tried to be a sun lover but I'm just not.

I love Autumn and early Spring but my favourite is Winter - all those really dark mornings and long dark evenings. I love cold and wind and rain and snow.

It sounds crazy, but I always feel safer and more at peace in colder, darker months. The summertime always makes my nerves a bit jangly because of the excessive brightness everywhere and all the noise outside and the expectation to be cramming the days with activity from dawn till dusk.

And it's all the more strange if you believe in astrology as I am a Leo!😂
