I found my husband in the bathroom today after having used the toilet brush to clean faeces in the toilet, he proceeded to wash the brush using his bare hands, no gloves in the sink. I was alarmed! Asked him to disinfect the sink with bleach and was it thoroughly. He shut the door and remained in the bathroom. When he emerged, I went in to check but it did not look like the sink had been touched, the cloth I use to clean the bathroom was still very dry, had certainly not been used. I was so upset I disinfected the sink myself and just left the house to go out for a drive. I'm still very upset and can't believe he's potentially been doing this for years! Previously, I've broken up with guys I found to be unhygienic. AIBU?

That's shit.

StarDolphins · 26/03/2025 23:07

‘Dump’ him💩

But yes, that’s gross. I hate toilet brushes though, I just put bleach down or spray & wipe.

FeministUnderTheCatriarchy · 26/03/2025 23:07

I soak my silicone toilet brush in a dedicated bleach bucket filled outside with the kettle. I then tip the water into the toilet.

To be fair, I know someone who put their toilet brush in the dishwasher, so your DH isn't doing so badly lol.

If he is otherwise a great guy it would be a bit strange to break up over this.... But you don't need any reason to end a relationship if your feelings aren't there anymore.

YANBU

He sounds like a total animal and this is a major turn off. It’s so not necessary and shows abit of immaturity and lack of respect. Yuck! 🤮

I think I would try a conversation first and maybe keep divorce as a plan B.

CountryMumof4 · 26/03/2025 23:38

Yes it's gross.. but is your relationship otherwise happy and fulfilling? If yes, then I'd try to work through this - actively show him what you want him to do etc. Yes, he should be thoroughly cleaning after himself, and making sure the bathroom is clean and hygienic .. but I'm sure any of us mothers will be painfully aware that this is one of those things you have to be explicitly clear about and give precise instructions. Will children/partners ever always follow them... Probs not... But I wouldn't bin off an otherwise happy relationship over it... In my experience, men and children just need to get into a routine... After a while they'll automatically just do it (most of the time anyway!).

ItGhoul · 27/03/2025 00:23

Moderately grim but not something I’d end an otherwise happy relationship over. Neither would I have needed to leave the house and go for a drive to get over it. FWIW, provided the sink is rinsed thoroughly afterwards and he washes his hands with soap, there’s no real hygiene risk to this.

I think my reaction would have been ‘Eww, don’t do that, you grubby bastard’ and nothing more.

Tbrh · 27/03/2025 01:02

That is gross, but if he washed his hands thoroughly with soap technically it shouldn't matter

Strugglingmumof3 · 27/03/2025 06:05

It’s why I don’t have a toilet brush. They are absolutely disgusting. We have the duck toilet cleaner and you discard the cleaning end after every use. Never would I have a toilet brush again. They make me feel sick

autisticbookworm · 27/03/2025 06:29

The sink bit would gross me out. As long as he washed his hands no gloves wouldn’t bother me. Why didn’t he rinse the brush in the toilet by flushing chain.

FidosMum84 · 27/03/2025 09:34

Buy the flushable toilet brushes. Worse for the environment but better for your marriage.

maw1681 · 27/03/2025 09:54

Oh god yes that’s gross!!! I’d get rid of the loo brush- less drastic than getting rid of the husband!

carlmotl · 27/03/2025 12:46

How often do you clean the cloth used to clean the bathroom? Surely that should be boil washed after each use. It's disgusting having cloths hanging around the bathroom like that.

If he washed his hands thoroughly after cleaning the toilet brush that's better than him using the gloves and then leaving them lying around with poo on them.

What happens to poo infested gloves after you have used them?

WatchingTheClowns · 27/03/2025 12:48

What a bastard

peachescariad · 27/03/2025 12:56

You caught him doing it this time - probably means he's done this before.....cleaning loo brush in sink FFS! gross

Bogginsthe3rd · 03/04/2025 23:26

That's not conventional. Were there toothbrushes nearby ? 😷

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/04/2025 23:28

He washed the shit off the loo brush with his bare hands in the sink

shudders
