Feeling heartbroken at tonight’s Eastenders

I don’t usually get welled up with soaps but I had a similar story at about 21…..
Went on holiday with a friend, her dad (both from UK) & her dad’s friend from Jamaica, Slight difference was that it was customs,
Me/friend returned earlier than parent/friend due to work….
Went through absolute abuse at customs. At the age of near 50 it is still affecting me.
I can literally say it’s impacted my whole life…..Can’t standup for myself, has left me avoiding any type of confrontation.
No real reason for post only that a similar incident impacted my whole life.

It was really hard hitting and you can’t help but think the white kids were fine and she wasn’t. The whole thing seemed so contrived as well.

I saw it too. Did they touch her? I dont think they did. A cavity search is a different thing altogether. There was a later scene where the cop licked her gloved finger to get a pen working again. If Avani was touched then that scene is a whole lot worse.

I think with me/us it was an age thing. How could we afford such a trip etc. Two 20ish yr olds coming back on our own. But completely understand how unfair the whole thing is for anyone.

No rubber gloves but properly searched. Lead to a room where we were forced to go to the toilet in full view (couldn’t leave till we had….and I couldn’t go in front of everyone) gallons of water later……

Suitcases ransacked, gifts brought back completely ruined (large tin of coffee) opened with tin opener then dumped in suitcase. Some clothes still wet a lot needed chucking. The whole attitude of being guilty. I could go on, when to date I don’t have so much as a speeding fine.

12hr flight (10hrs Miami, 2hrs to Jamaica) 4hrs between (16hrs) & withheld for a further 5hrs for no reason……

Have adult DC at home & trying not to feel overcome by it.

I think your reaction is slightly OTT it was a good eye opening episode but you need so seek out some help if your experience is still affecting you now

I was in a police cell for mental health reasons. I had to strip naked and squat in case I was hiding something I could hurt myself with in my vagina.
Or if you are in A&E for mental health, you have someone with you when you need the loo. Or if you have a crisis at home you still have to have a cop be with you when you need your own toilet in your own home.

It really upset me too. Fair play to the actress, she presented Avani's situation and aftermath so well. I think that's partly why it shook me up so much, I also have a 14 year old who can be a bit gobby. Thankfully we aren't poc. Which is I assume why Avani was targeted and the other two weren't.

It was very hard hitting and wonderfully acted.
The character disintegrated in front of us in a way we rarely see.
