School term time holiday reception year

Aibu to consider taking my DC out for a weeks holiday? We can’t afford school holiday prices this year having just gone back from mat leave and also DC struggles with really busy places. We had thought that we just won’t go away this year but actually we do really want to and could afford to go in June. We won’t get fined as DC is summer born.

I think you'd be okay to do it.

Our eldest started reception this year. I’m amazed at how many parents take the kids out during term time. Plenty take older siblings out too. We live in an affluent area but I guess even high earners can’t stomach school holiday prices…

Not fair on the teacher though who then has to work to catch your child back up with what they have missed. Times that by the number of other parents taking their kids out and you are substantially adding to the workload of that teacher.

Or, do what my daughter did when Lily had to miss a week. Ask what she will be missing - phonics, maths etc., and the teacher will put the worksheets in a pack to do at home.
