To think that most “foodies” are just using their diet to mask deep insecurity about their personality?

If your personality is just your next meal, maybe you need to look in the mirror and realise you have nothing else to offer.

Grabs popcorn.

Oh….

Anonym00se · 24/03/2025 21:33

Can you not have an interest in food and other things as well?

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 24/03/2025 21:33

Ooh. And it’s not even Friday night.

Fagli · 24/03/2025 21:34

I’ve no idea what this means. I’ve never met anyone who bases their personality on their lunch (and I live in wanky London). Maybe you need new friends?

LeaveALittleNote · 24/03/2025 21:35

Bizarre.

CallMeDaphne · 24/03/2025 21:35

Hold my (organic) beer…

fromthevault · 24/03/2025 21:36

What is it with all these weird threads today?

Endless threads about 'AIBU to think [personality trait] is really just [random unconnected thing]'

And all started by posters with those WeirdMumsnetUsernames.

weareallcats · 24/03/2025 21:37

Odd post. It is possible to like more than one thing.

BitOutOfPractice · 24/03/2025 21:37

I seem to have turned into one of those protein wankers you see on instagram. Is that what you mean op?

Have you maybe had a drink? On a school night?

lawpluslaw · 24/03/2025 21:37

What if you haven't decided on your next meal? Does that mean you have no personality? Oh no 😱😱

Bodonka · 24/03/2025 21:37

So many completely goady threads like this recently, with exactly the same formatting as each other.

FWIW, personalities are made up of the things we love. I’d much prefer to be excited for my next meal than be bitching about other peoples insecurities. IMO the people who rant about others having no personality are the bloodthirsty dramatics who have no personality themselves.

PorkPieandPickle · 24/03/2025 21:38

So you think if you like nice food, that’s your whole personality? Why? I know a couple of chefs, definitely foodies - they have personalities.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 24/03/2025 21:38

Huh?

Panterusblackish · 24/03/2025 21:38

Oh get a bleeding grip

Of course! But I’m talking about the people whose entire personality revolves around what they’re eating next. It’s less of an interest and more of an identity crisis.

Ahh another weird name change wind up post. Has someone been on the beers or do you think this is AI?

Brazenhussy0 · 24/03/2025 21:40

This feels like it's aimed at one very specific person, OP 😂Are you ok?

And no, I don't think anybody bases their personality on their meals and I would suggest that if this is all you are seeing of someone's personality, then you are probably more likely to be the problem than they are.
The only exception to this would be if they have an eating disorder... in which case they deserve empathy and kindness, not derision.

If the shoe fits! But hey, at least you’re self-aware - most people I’m talking about take themselves way too seriously. And no drinks involved, just an observation!

I don't know anyone like this and I used to eat for a living.

I'm not sure you understand what the phrase 'identity crisis' actually means, either.

Fargo79 · 24/03/2025 21:43

Surely you could say this about literally any person with any hobby. This "making XYZ their whole personality" insult that the internet currently loves is so bitchy. Just let people enjoy things.

Have you and your friends visited too many buffets? I can see how the choice can be overwhelming. Maybe stick to a meal deal? But will you have a sandwich or a salad? Crisps or fruit? Sushi or a chocolate bar?

I can see where you’re coming from now, my personality is all over the place just thinking about it!!

If you’ve never come across this type, consider yourself lucky! I’m talking about people who act like their food choices make them more interesting than they are - constantly broadcasting every meal like it’s a personality trait. It’s less about enjoying food and more about using it as a substitute for actual depth.

Of course people can like food and have personalities! I’m talking about those whose entire identity seems to revolve around what they eat - like the ones who constantly narrate their meals as if it’s a life philosophy. There’s a difference between enjoying food and making ‘being a foodie’ your entire personality.

It's a toss up between cheese on toast and a microwave meal for me tonight. Quite happy to receive any food offerings from a 'foodie' in crisis. Although I do live in an arse-end type of small town in the SW so not many foodies with PTSD around.

No I haven’t, I like the people I hang out with. Why are you friends with people you obviously don’t like?!!!
