To think that most “foodies” are just using their diet to mask deep insecurity about their personality?

If your personality is just your next meal, maybe you need to look in the mirror and realise you have nothing else to offer.

deep real deep

Dumbledoresniece · 24/03/2025 23:14

OP, get a life.

Screamingabdabz · 24/03/2025 23:15

You could say that about anyone who seems to revolve their whole life around one thing…people who live for their next holiday and go on about it, dieters who analyse everyone’s lunch calories, people who are workaholics and never shut up about it, sports fans who bring it into every conversation, people who live vicariously through their children and talk about them ad nauseum etc etc

If you’ve only ever got one topic of conversation you’re going to be a dullard whatever it is.

I don't think the person you described exists.

Have you been smoking something funny.

BeerAndSexAndChipsAndGravy · 24/03/2025 23:18

Let people enjoy whatever makes them happy! Life's too short to give a fuck.

IlooklikeNigella · 24/03/2025 23:19

This thread is really funny. I don't know what kind of people you mean OP.

Is it people who are always batch cooking and sharing pics on insta with protein stats?
Or work colleagues who will come in tell you about the amazing dinner they made in great detail or never ask you anything except what you are planning for dinner?

???

Turmerictolly · 24/03/2025 23:39

Mmm, I know someone like this and it has become tedious. Posts pics of artfully shot lunch and dinner with boring and pretentious details about ‘food=love’ type stuff.

capitanaamerica · 24/03/2025 23:45

IME, there are some people who call themselves "foodies" and it's really central to their experience of the world - but there are a lot more people who've just kind of adopted the label to signify that they care about and actively think about what they eat.

it seems really weird to assume that this interest somehow indicated "insecurity". But maybe DARVO is playing role for you here?

What is it with all these weird threads today?

Endless threads about 'AIBU to think [personality trait] is really just [random unconnected thing]'

And all started by posters with those WeirdMumsnetUsernames.

Personalty I think that the real personality traits were just the friends we made along the way …

Reading this thread, I have realised I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about what I will eat next.

I'm not sure it's my personality, but it's definitely a key driver and motivator.

I also recently got into fermenting, pickling and making chutneys.... and I am gluten free (coeliac), and just turned vegan which has been awesome despite the lack of bacon sandwiches...

I suspect I could be one of those people the OP is concerned about.

I mean everyone hates gluten free, vegan wankers don't they? I've seen the memes....

If it's any salvation, for me at all, I never try to convert others. That said, my mum and sister have decided to join me in trying out vegan after I regaled them with with the unspeakable delight I am experiencing with perfectly formed poops.

Dear god. I totally AM the exact nobhead this discussion is about. Shit. I also posted pictures of my pickles on Facebook. I am a food whore.
