‘ things in this country are getting very scary - I am not sure how much you are paying attention. The atmosphere of fear and intimidation is very real and the economic situation is very precarious. XXX University is in very serious trouble. I need to come to the UK to get my passport renewed as soon as I possibly can. This is not a joke or a drill, it is very real.’
